Description
In this 3D solar system size comparison model, the radius of each planet is measured relative to Earth's radius (6,378 km). This means that the Earth's sphere in the model has a radius of 1 cm, where 1 cm represents 6,378 km. For example, the sphere representing Jupiter has a radius of 10.961 cm, and its actual radius can be calculated using the formula:
Sphere Radius* 6,378 = Actual Radius of the Planet
The data used in this model was sourced from Google. While the model provides a useful size comparison, it is not 100% accurate because planets have different radii at the poles and the equator. However, it still serves as a good reference for understanding relative sizes.
The Sun’s radius can also be calculated using the same formula. However, the Sun does not have a single, fixed radius, as different wavelengths of light reveal slightly different measurements. In this 3D model, the Sun’s radius was determined based on visible light observations.
