OCPC Small Mysticete Mandible DAA05-13-98-01_1

Description

This is a fragment from the back of the jaw of a very small baleen whale. It was recovered from the Oso Sand member of the Capistrano formation, in what is now the southern part of Orange County, California. At this time, there was a wide diversity of baleen whales of many different sizes, from ones similar in size to today's Pygmy Right Whale, to ones closer in size to modern Humpback Whales. The Fossil is now housed at the Cooper Lab, which is part of OC Parks. Scanned by William Gelnaw using Artec Eva structured light scanner. Processed with Artec Studio 20 Professional.
