Description
Stone cross (DG012-029001-) and holy well (DG012-029----) dedicated to St. Ultan in the townland of Leitrim (Liatroim/Leotrym O’Cullynan), parish of Culdaff (Cúil Dabhcha), barony of Inishowen East (Inis Eoghain Thoir), County Donegal. Described in 1936 as; ‘A large stone cross has been erected over the well having on one side the inscription: “St. Ultan” and on the other: “Erected by J. S. Nicholson, Esq., Anno Domine 1860’. James Steele Nicholson constructed nearby Falmore House in 1850. Annotated ‘St. Ultan’s Cross’ on the 1900 edition of the Ordnance Survey 25-inch map where it is shown standing to the north of the holy well which is annotated ‘Leitrim Penitential Station’ in Gothick Script. These monuments are not indicated on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map.
