SSRBs_Hololive

An inscribed oracle bone (jia gu 甲骨) from the Couling-Chalfant collection at the British Library.


Oracle bones were animal bones, usually ox shoulder bones or the underside of turtle shells, used for divination rituals in ancient China. Dating to the Shang dynasty (c. 1600 – 1050 BC), they bear the earliest extant form of Chinese writing and are the oldest items held in the British Library.


The inscription on the reverse of this particular bone records a lunar eclipse, which can be precisely dated to the night of 27 December 1192 BC.

This model was created for a British Library project on oracle bones that formed part of the UK-China Cultural Exchange 2015, supported by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

A bronze sword with an oval handle, decorated with three wide, circumferential strips adorned with diagonal lines. The lower end of the handle is flared and has an angular notch in the middle. The blade exhibits a slight indentation and is gently curved. The central region of the specimen is characterised by a flat ridge, flanked on either side by two narrow, low strips. The latter are distinguished by the presence of diagonal hatching towards the upper end. Concentric circle ornaments are stamped onto the upper end of the blade, where the edges are indented. The antennae exhibit a wide, ribbon-shaped and simply rolled structure.

The conical-necked vessel exhibits a blackish-brown pigmentation on its surface.  The object's decoration features vertical fluting from the shoulder to the belly.

**Dating:** 1050 - 800 BCE

The massive clay object, which has been provisionally designated a "column", is of particular interest. A potential point of comparison is a mobile oven. However, the inner walls do not display signs of encrustation caused by slag, indicating that the object was not subjected to high temperatures. It's function remains unclear; however, it could be hypothesised that it is employed as a support for cooking vessels, or alternatively, that it constitutes an architectural element, as its form would suggest. The absence of adequate information makes it impossible to propose a definitive suggestion.

Massive Clay Object

Gravröset undersöktes sommaren 2025. Det var ca 13 meter i diameter och nästan 0,8 meter högt, men såg mycket högre ut från sydost där man utnyttjat bergets sluttande form. I modellen syns den övre stenpackningen som var uppbyggd av 0,2–0,5 meter stora stenar. Under denna fanns ytterligare ett skikt med mindre stenar. Kol från botten av röset har daterats till 1050-800 f Kr, det vill säga yngre bronsålder. Här hittades också en flintskrapa, men inga mänskliga kvarlevor var bevarade.

A conical-necked vessel made of light to grey-brown clay. The surface is smoothed and graphited. 
At the base of the vessel's neck, horizontal flutes are present. The vessel's decoration extends from the shoulder area to the belly, comprising vertical sets and individual flutes. In addition, vertical clusters of flutes are observable above the protruding knobs.

Magnificent gilded ring buckle of bronze from the Viking Age of Irish workmanship, with thin tinned silver plating on one side. The three-sided fields on the buckle's wide ends are smooth, but the large roundings on the buckle are originally the eyes of the animal and are larger and with ornaments along the edge. There are traces of amber inlay in one of the roundings. - The other side has a thin tinned silver plating, richly decorated with engraved ornaments. In the lower corners of the large three-sided fields are circular fields filled with scrolls. On each of the large three-sided fields is a richly decorated animal figure. Directly opposite the wide ends is also a field decorated with ribbon braids. Dated to 800-1050 AD.

Gilded ring buckle of bronze

This model of the human skull slowly "explodes" to reveal the structure of the component bones, much like an animated version of the classic physical  Beauchêne preparation of an exploded skull. This model is the first in a series of human skull models on Sketchfab that will annotate various features as an aid to learning human skull anatomy. We launch it now to mark the WitmerLab Sketchfab site having reached 10,000 followers. This skull specimen (OUVC 10503) was CT scanned at OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital in Athens, OH, under funding from NSF. It was previously published in 2008: http://bit.ly/2LLot8M. Bus stop located in an open field along a highway near Borzna, Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine.

The structure is painted in the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag. The walls feature graffiti with the national coat of arms and the phrase “Ми єдині!” (“We are united!”), along with a paint stain of unknown origin, most likely vandalism.
