Éste mismo ha sido escenario y testigo de impactantes acontecimientos tanto artísticos, sociales y políticos del país; su construcción data del final de mandato de Porfirio Díaz, por encargo del presidente mexicano con motivo de la celebración del centenario del inicio de la Independencia de México, más fue inaugurado hasta el 29 de septiembre de 1934 tras el estallido de la Revolución mexicana. Como institución, depende del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA), parte de la Secretaría de Cultura del gobierno federal. En 1987 fue declarado por la Unesco un monumento patrimonio de la humanidad.

Established as the capital of unified Vietnam in 1802, Hue was not only the political but also the cultural and religious center under the Nguyen dynasty until 1945. The ancient Mayan city of Tikal is located deep in the heart of Guatemala's El Petén rain forest, within Tikal National Park. The ancient city, covering an area greater than 16 sq km (6.2 sq mi), is the largest known ancient Maya city-complex dating to the Classic period. It is estimated to have had a peak population of 100,000 to 200,000 with an urban density of 600 to 700 people per square kilometer. During the Classic Maya period from 200 to 850 CE, Tikal flourished, becoming the preeminent political, economic, and military power in the region. At least 33 rulers oversaw the construction of numerous monuments, many of which remain to be uncovered.

The church was built during the First Bulgarian Empire, after the official conversion to Christianity. Some sources date the building of the church during the rule of Knyaz Boris I (852 – 889).
Originally a synod church of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, later of the Archbishopric of Ohrid, it was subsequently converted into a mosque during the rule of the Ottoman Empire.
