Arachne was once a mortal weaver of unparalleled skill, but she became prideful and arrogant from all the praise she received for her work. She later challenged Athena to a contest to see who was truly the best weaver. Though there were different variations of the story of the contest, there was one similarity shared by all: Athena ended up transforming Arachne into the first spider and made her immortal. She then became the Goddess of challenge, spiders, and weaving. Hence, Arachne's name came to mean "spider" in Greek.

Question to participants/Sketchfab staff: I couldn't find anywhere in the rules that I can't do it, but I noticed no other participants use it - Am I allowed to have a custom background? Or does it count as post-processing? 

Eeey, I participated in the challenge :D It was quite fun to make. I thought of this idea that what if Athena in her fury, wanted Arachne to suffer as much as possible and instead of instantly transforming her into a spider, took her sweet time and tortured Arachne by slowly corrupting her entire body and turning it into something hideous. 

I tried to go for a bit different palette ( fantasy exotic-like spiders) than what you would expect from the usual spiders, to see how that would turn out. It was really fun!

Athena's Sentinel

This model was generated from 151 images taken with Go Pro Hero 9 using the Agisoft Software at low resolution. The site is situated at Maltraeth Sands, Anglesey, and is believed to tbe the bow section of the Athena, a 369gt wooden brig built in 1840. At time of loss on 20 December 1852, the vessel was reported to belong to Candia (Heraklion, Crete). The master was Capt. George H. Colscundi. The ATHENA was bound from Alexandria in Egypt to Liverpool, and was freighted by Cassvotti, Brothers & Co., with 3000 Ardoles New Sardi beans. Part of the cargo was saved, in damaged state, along with sails and other materials. The Llanddwyn lifeboat saved the 12 members of the crew. The brig had broken up by Christmas Eve. Local people were employed in gathering up the cargo of beans, which has spread along the coast, into heaps ready to be taken away by cart. Athena, Marble Sentry is technically part of my Anceint Greek Philosopher Heros, part of my series where I reimagine Greek Philosophers as Greek Heros. This character in particular is a living marble carving done by my heroric version of Michaelangelo, who technically isn't a greek philosopher but was too cool to not include in this series.  Stay tuned for more Greek Philosopher Heros and follow to see what comes next! Zeus (Greek: Ζεύς/Δίας) was the King of Olympus and the ruler of the Greek Pantheon, as well as the God of the Sky, Thunder, Lightning, Storms, Hospitality and Heavens. Youngest son of the Titans Cronos and Rhea, he was the brother of Hades, Poseidon as well as Demeter, Hestia and Hera - whom he would also wed. He fathered a line of all-powerful deities such as Athena, Ares, Hephaestus, Persephone, Zagreus, Aphrodite, Artemis, Apollo, Hermes and Dionysus as well as many mortal children such as Hercules, Kratos, Deimos, Perseus, Pollux, Peirithous, Minos and countless others.

Despite the absence of the head and arms this sculpture radiates a profound sense of grace and authority. The finely chiseled folds of the garment and the poised grounded stance evoke a timeless elegance. This sculpture representing Athena radiates a sense of solemn dignity and divine authority. Her helmeted head is slightly bowed lending her a contemplative yet commanding presence. Her lips are firm and expression neutral conveying a cool intellect and unwavering resolve.

Iron Athena Pallas Giustinian

This sculpture is believed to represent Cecrops the mythical first king of Athens and his daughter Pandrosos as part of the east pediment of the Parthenon which depicted the contest between Athena and Poseidon. Though the heads and arms are missing the remaining forms communicate a remarkable sense of calm and mythological depth. The contrast between the powerful male torso and the flowing drapery of the female figure speaks to the dual nature of sacred dignity and human vulnerability. Their seated posture suggests both rest and reverence casting them as solemn witnesses to divine events. It is a masterful example of classical Greek sculpture at the intersection of storytelling and idealized form.
