This model was captured autonomously by Skydio 3D Scan. 3D Scan is a first-of-its-kind adaptive scanning software built on top of Skydio Autonomy. It allows the drone to automate data capture for generating 3D models with comprehensive coverage and ultra-high resolution, so that crews can perform higher quality scans in less time and with minimal pilot training.

A collection of 282 (A.K.A more than you'll ever need) lowpoly people. Allright. Who cares. **Where is waldo?!**, that's the real question!

Automagically remeshing body scans to lowpoly assets (check out my growing collection of [free assets](https://skfb.ly/6yQSW)!), which can be used for archviz placeholders.

Each model has its origin located at its feet, so that placement in a scene is made easy. However, some refined scaling is probably needed as some children have become giants in the process...

Lowpoly People + Waldo

Still working on automated body scans (this time from @itseez3d) reprocessing. ( [There are more!](https://skfb.ly/6zqCE) )

The noses are still bothering me, and I fear I'll have to include a manual step in my scripted workflow to keep more geometry on the face than on the body.

1500 triangles models, 1024px albedo and normal maps. The model materials are from front to back: 

1. albedo + normal map
2. normal map only
3. smoothed normals (no albedo, no normal map)
4. flat shaded

WIP - Lowpoly People - 2

A collection of reprocessed scanned animal skulls ([other free assets here](https://skfb.ly/6yQSW)), initally designed to be used as as game props, particles or for optimized renderings. 

**BUT**:  the method I used for remeshing and texture baking was not adapted in this case, and many normal inversions for instance have happened. Moreover, as these assets were batch-processed, I neglected some parts of the material, hence some black zones on the scans... 

You can of course still use them for your projects, but know that the quality on those baked models is not that good! Plus 1024px is too few for those complex objects...

Each model is made of 2500 triangles, and 1024 pixels albedo and normal maps.

The original scans were first remeshed with [mmgs](http://mmgtools.org), and decimated, UV unwrapped and baked in blender. Normal maps are ready to use for Unreal Engine, don't forget to flip their green channel in Unity!

All the original scans come from the great collection of UVic Libraries - @uviclib .

Lowpoly Animal Skulls - 1

This is a 3D animation ("Shelly") of a near-adult loggerhead (ID=982.000406129037) sea turtle (*Caretta caretta*, straight carapace length=86 cm) that was initially captured on June 23, 2017 by the Inwater Research Group, and then photgraphed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras.  Photographer Christine Shepard operated the cameras and the sea turtle was released that same day in good condition.  The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Animator Johnson Martin  used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center each provided feedback on the movements.

Model 47A - Loggerhead Sea Turtle

This is a 3D scan of a plaster cast of the sculpture ‘[Venus de Milo (Aphrodite of Milos)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_de_Milo)’ dated to circa 450 BCE.

The scan is made from the cast (ref. KAS434/1) in The Royal Cast Collection at SMK – National Gallery of Denmark.

City Props Collection volume 1

Trying out some remeshing scipts in blender/python on body scans! These ones come from the collection [Codame Labs] from @codame - all licensed under CC-attribution. As usual, feel free to re-use for nearly anything, and go check [my growing collection of free assets](https://skfb.ly/6yQSW) ;)

Each model is made of 1500 triangles, and has its origin located on the ground plane. Obviously, scans with multiple people have a lower precision.

I removed the textures to keep the faces as flat shaded, as this is the step I'm currently thinking about: geometry.
In particular, how to keep the characters nose - otherwise the face feels too flat - while remeshing in my (automated) workflow.

This could be done by specifying, with just one manual intervention (but not automated anymore!), the face as a zone of higher resolution and giving this input as a metric to [mmgs](http://mmgtools.org). Will think about it...

More to come soon as I make progress and if I feel inspired!

The sea turtle was released soon after in good condition. The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Animator Johnson Martin used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center each provided feedback on the movements

Model 50A - Hawksbill Sea Turtle

Robert Stephenson's 0-2-2 locomotive [Rocket](https://collection.sciencemuseum.org.uk/objects/co8084947/stephensons-rocket-steam-locomotive) from the [Science Museum Group Collection](http://collection.sciencemuseum.org.uk/).  

Manufactured in 1829 by Robert Stephenson and Company in Newcastle, close to today’s Newcastle Central railway station, Rocket won the famous [Rainhill Trials](https://www.railwaymuseum.org.uk/objects-and-stories/rocket-rainhill-and-rise-locomotive)  to become the fastest locomotive of its time thanks to its innovative design.

This 3D model of Rocket was produced using 22 high resolution LIDAR scans and over 2,500 detailed photographs taken in May 2018. More information on how the Science Museum Group worked with [ScanLAB](https://scanlabprojects.co.uk/) to create the model can be found  in the [Science Museum Group Digital Lab website](https://lab.sciencemuseum.org.uk/scanning-stephensons-rocket-40916fdb4d20).

Destroyed Car 03 (Raw Scan)

Free 4K model of two weathered spray paint cans with scuffed labels, vibrant purple and orange splatters, worn nozzles and realistic grime.

A collection of lowpoly (1500 triangles each) birds, reprocessed in blender from Sketchfab 3D scans and models (have a look at my [other similar assets](https://skfb.ly/6AQyA), or at [this blog post](https://blog.sketchfab.com/tutorial-low-poly-assets-from-3d-scans) to know more about the process I used).

Not all of them turned out as I had hoped (because of poor original meshes), and I had to cut some birds legs not to spend too much time removing the supports (branches, rocks...), but I'm still quite happy with the result.

A .fbx as well as a .blend are available in the archive, along with a "credits" file in which you will find all the links to the original models. Most of the original assets come from [darwinmuseum.ru](https://sketchfab.com/darwinmuseum.ru) and [Innovation Studio](https://sketchfab.com/cmp_innovation_studio) though, so thanks to them!

Soda Cans

This is a re-creation of a historical garage located at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The objects you see in the Garage are a combination of 3D scans and models of objects used commonly during the 1960s.

All of the 3D scans were scanned used a Creaform Go Scan 20, & 50. The 3D models were created in Maya.

LP Americans House Mobile

This is a 3D animation ("Scallywag") of a juvenile green sea turtle (ID=CM1648) (*Chelonia mydas*) that was captured on December 23, 2016 by the Loggerhead MarineLife Center at Blowing Rocks Preserve.  The turtle was attacked by a shark, but survived.  It was photographed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras by Christine Shepard.

The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.  Animator Jer Bot used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Model 46A - Subadult Green Sea Turtle

Free 8K model of spray paint cans with worn metal, drips and colorful labels - perfect props for workshop, garage, graffiti or cluttered shed scenes.

This Stegosaurus skeleton from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science is more than 26 feet long and over nine feet tall. The bony beast is a permanent display with steel shaped around it, welded in place, and puttied together, making it impossible to take apart. Which means it was super difficult to scan! Triebold Paleontology, Inc. scanned the dinosaur using Artec Space Spider and Artec Studio software. The scanning involved crawling into the rib cage, then perching atop a step ladder just to reach the peaks of the big fan-shaped plates on the dinosaur’s back. The scanner captured everything from the nose to the tail spikes. Beyond aligning the scans, Artec Studio also reduced the mesh size to the desired level for manipulating the 3D model and 3D printing. Scanning time: 1 week - Processing time: 2 months (629 individual scans across 71 scan projects).

This is an animation of an subadult Atlantic Sturgeon.

This 3D model is a composite of images from a subadult Atlantic Sturgeon  (Acipenser oxyrhynchus oxyrhynchus) housed at the Maymont Nature Center (https://maymont.org/animals/nature-center/), and a scan from a preserved Atlantic Sturgeon from the Natural History Collection at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (https://bcrc.bio.umass.edu/nhc/home).

CG artists Jer Bot, Johnson Martin and Robert Gutierrez used Blender to reconstruct the full fish from these scans and images, as well as animate the movements.
