A Hindu temple, or mandir or koil in Indian languages, is a house, seat and body of divinity for Hindus. The symbolism and structure of a Hindu temple are rooted in Vedic traditions, deploying circles and squares. After the opening of the Prater in 1766, people settled on the edge of the Prater. In 1862 an elementary school was opened. The principal attached an image of the Virgin Mary to a large tree in 1863 because the nearest church was far away. Franz Plankenbüchler was an innkeeper and ran a restaurant at Freudenauer Dammhafen. Franz, a deeply religious man, often crossed himself before the image of the Virgin Mary during his walks. In 1911, he decided to erect a statue of the Virgin Mary in a good spot nearby. This was the beginning of today's place of pilgrimage, which also includes a church (Maria Grün) since 1924.

This is a bronze sculpture of the Hindu god Shiva in his dancing form of Nataraja (Lord of Dance).  As Nataraja, Shiva performs the Ananda Tandava (dance of bliss), the dance in which the universe is created, maintained, and dissolved.  This sculpture depicts all three of those aspects at once.  Shiva in his role as Nataraja represents the Indian conception of the never-ending cycle of time.  The purpose of this sculpture is to alert the viewer that through belief and devotion to Shiva, one can achieve salvation (or moksha).  Cast in 2013, this sculpture is an example of the centuries-old tradition of the lost-wax casting method perfected during India’s Chola dynasty (c. 850 CE – 1250 CE).

Hanuman/Anjaneya Idol

Hanuman Ji is one of the most revered deities from  the Hindu Mythology and is an avatar of Shiva. He is  the personification of dedication and devotion. He is a   spirited and energetic figure and was endowed with  great strength and the shastras abound in tales  narrating his remarkable feats. Once for example   Hanuman mistook the sun for a ripe fruit (monkeys  are naturally lured by red ripe fruits) and rushed  towards the sky in an attempt to grab it. He is the sun  of the Wind God and for the aforementioned feat was  cursed to forget his powers, only to remember them  in aid of Lord Ram. Lord Hanuman is said to exist wherever Lord Ram is glorified and is his greatest and  most devoted servant. A fun fact: his name means 'broken jaw'.

Brass Mask of Khandoba Sculptures

The [**Piccolomini Altar**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piccolomini_Altarpiece) in the Siena Cathedral is an elaborate Renaissance marble structure commissioned by Francesco Todeschini Piccolomini, later Pope Pius III. Designed in the late 15th century and attributed to Andrea Bregno, the altar resembles a miniature architectural façade, featuring niches, pilasters, and finely detailed relief carvings.

It was intended to house a series of statues, some of which were sculpted by a young Michelangelo, marking an important early stage in his career. The central niche contains a small devotional image above a simple altar table, creating a focal point for worship.

The altar combines Renaissance balance and symmetry with rich ornamentation, reflecting both religious devotion and the prestige of the Piccolomini family. Today, it stands as a significant artistic and historical feature within the cathedral interior.

Below Bratislavský hrad, on the wooded castle hill of Bratislava, stands a Baroque sandstone statue that corresponds to the iconographic type of “Ecce Homo.” It depicts Christ after the flagellation, at the moment when he is presented to the crowd. He wears a crown of thorns, a loosely draped robe, and holds his hands bound in front of his body. His posture is calm and composed, his slightly lowered gaze conveying quiet dignity and a composed endurance of suffering.

The figure stands on a tall, simple stone column with a base, clearly distinguishing it from the surrounding park grounds. The traces of weather and time have visibly marked the surface of the sandstone, lending the depiction additional poignancy. Set amid the trees and with a sweeping view over the city, the monument appears both secluded and present, inviting quiet contemplation and devotion.

Ecce Homo

The so-called Saint Abban's (or Abán) Grave near Ballymakerra/ Ballymakeery in County Cork. It is part of the pattern around St Abán's Well nearby. It consists of a cairn, three ogham stones and a bullaun stone, decorated with devotionalia. The patron day is March 16. This model was done on the 21st, but the local community arrived the same day about 10 mins after we left. They had been delayed by several things and actually celebrated on the 21st.

Critical Depth(1997): The Siren's Song

The relief depicted on the surrounding wall of the Calvary Church in Köszeg most likely represents a scene from Christ's Way of the Cross. At the center is Jesus Christ, recognizable by the halo around his head, in a posture of fatigue and quiet resignation. He is surrounded by several figures who can be interpreted as Roman soldiers or pursuers, driving him on or harassing him. The animated postures, the sometimes aggressive gestures, and the deeply cut folds of the garments lend the scene a strong dramatic tension and vividly illustrate the suffering of Christ. The richly curved Baroque frame with volutes and ornamental decoration highlights the depiction like a picture field and refers to its devotional function. In conjunction with the other reliefs arranged along the wall, the work is clearly to be understood as part of a closed-ended Way of the Cross on Calvary, which was intended for processions and personal meditation.

Kreuzwegrelief

A holy well along the stations around the site of St Gobnait in Ballyvourney. It is very close to the building called "St Gobnait's Kitchen", and as one can tell by the crosses and devotionalia, it is considered holy. It is however NOT St Gobnait's Well.
