Star Wars New Hope Opening Crawl (Animation)

Every scene on this rock has its own interest.  This area of Rock 5 seems to specialise in Canid images.  Dogs can be recognised in Valcamonica rock art by their curled, upright tails & their extended bodies with short legs.  Wolves are depicted with a very similar canine appearance but have downward-pointing tails (see the Cemmo boulders, which have the two depictions close on the same panel).  Here on Rock 5, there are two separate packs of hounds.

My favourite figure on the rock is the very simply-drawn matchstick man warrior to the left of centre. His arms, legs and body are fundamentally just a star shape, but the addition of a basic head and a rudimentary sword & shield, plus the subtle shaping of his limbs embue him with a strong, evocative warrior stance.  Simple but very effective and artistic (to my eye anyway!).  I couldn't guess at the period, as I have not seen anything else like him elsewhere, but I would instinctively place him perhaps in the Late Bronze Age.

Valcamonica, Bedolina Rock 5 (5)

Anthropomorphic whistle  in the shape of a standing woman holding, with her right arm a wide-brimmed hat with decorated edge. In her left hand, she holds a round fan with a cylindrical handle and a spiked rim, which she points downward. She wears a skirt, leaving her bust exposed, simple jewelry, and wears her long hair combed down the middle. A very interesting feature is the facial decoration, with designs on the cheeks achieved using the scarring or excoriation technique, which consists of making incisions in the skin that, when healed, leave marks or raised designs, especially if the skin is keloid. In some cases, to enhance the relief, pebbles or other objects were placed under the raised skin, like inlays.

**game: Carnivores 1 / 2**

Moschops (misspelled "Moshops" in Carnivores 2) is a four-legged herbivorous synapsid that is featured as an ambient animal in Carnivores, Carnivores 2, and Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter.
A very abundant large herbivore, it can often be found grazing across suitable habitats of FMM UV-32 using its short chisel-like teeth well suited for cropping vegetation. A very unique beast, Moschops' hind legs extended straight down like mammals', while its front legs extended outward and than downward like a reptile. Very skittish, this animal will flee at the first sign of danger. Moschops' diet is mostly plants, although it will occasionally eat meat in times of hunger.

Moschops ("calf-faced") is an extinct genus of therapsids (non-mammalian synapsids) that lived during the Permian period, 265-260 million years ago. Its hind limbs were small, while its forelimbs were powerful.

His posture the tension in his limbs and the downward gaze all radiate deep concentration and innocence. There is no grandeur here just the simple elegance of an everyday moment. The unadorned physique the natural motion and the quietude expressed in the figure create a striking sense of life within the stone as if time has paused for this one gesture.

Marble Player

This rock was long known by local inhabitants as the 'Puppet Stone' in reference to the carvings upon it.  The main facing containing most of the engravings is badly damaged, especially the lower part, which remained underground for a long time.

To date over 150 engravings have been identified, including many animals, a dagger and a ploughing scene.  The animals include; stags with large antlers, fawns, chamois with short, hooked horns, ibex with backward-fgacing horns and swine (wild boars & pigs).  The canids, depicted in groups with downward-pointing tails, are interpreted as a pack of wolves.  The cattle, without horns or tails, may represent young oxen or cows grazing.

The presence of daggers which closely resemble finds from the graveyard of Remedello Sotto, dates most of the figures to 2900-2500 BC.  A few animals depicted in a dynamic style, similar to that of figures on the Cemmo 3 & 4 stelae, may be attributed to the Bell Beaker Culture (2500-2200 BC).

Wearing his signature winged hat the god sits with relaxed poise one leg forward and the other bent beneath him creating a casual but elegant posture. The detailing in the anatomy and drapery balances divine strength with a very human expressiveness.

The Pietà at Kreuzberg near Falkenstein depicts Mary holding the lifeless body of Jesus in her lap, in a calm and dignified pose. Jesus’ body sags heavily downward, while Mary supports him with both arms and gazes quietly at him. The stone figure shows clear signs of weathering and stands on a massive pedestal in the open countryside, creating a simple yet striking effect.

Stone artifact with a convex surface, worked in a crescent shape. The exterior surface bears features of a zoomorphic face, including round eyes with pronounced supraorbital ridges, a flat nose, and a closed mouth curving downward. Each end of the piece has two perforations, one upper and one lower, intended for attachment. This artifact may represent a knee guard or thigh protector associated with the Mesoamerican ballgame.

Ceramic whistle depicting a dwarf figure in a dancing posture. Anthropomorphic whistle  in the shape of a standing warrior with legs apart. He wears an animal mask and a banded collar from which a trophy head hangs at the center, its hair falling downward over the warrior’s body. Whistle Figurine (Warrior)

Prehispanic vessel, apparently bearing modern decoration: an orange horizontal band around and below the rim, followed by what appear to be two plump figures placed on diametrically opposite sides of the vessel. These figures were created by painting the entire surface and outlines in black, leaving the figures in the natural color of the slip. The eyes consist of two orange-filled circles, and the mouth is rendered as a downward-curving line. Modern incisions are present on the hands and around the mouths.

Bowl with Incised Face

Teotihuacan style incense burner from the Pacific Coast of Guatemala, dating to the Early Classic period (ca. 450- 650 AD). The truncated-conical lid is decorated at the top with a seated female figure in a bird costume. Her costume consists of a zoomorphic helmet with an open beak, feathers attached to her arms, and a skirt, leaving her bust exposed. Both the helmet and the bird she holds in her left hand have a flattened beak with the tip pointing downward, suggesting a waterfowl. However, the raised and swept-back feathers on the head suggest that it could be one of the kingfisher species (Chloroceryle aenea).

Woman with Bird Disguise

The motifs depicted on this small surface form a compelling anticipation of what will come on the subsequent Red Route through this section of the Seradina park - in particular the huge Rock 12.

There is a ploughing scence with harnessed horses, preceded by a duel between two warriors with swords & round shields. These are surrounded by human and animal figures.

Among the animals, that are insome cases accompanied by their young, the most prestigious prey of aristocratic hunting in the Iron Age was the deer, which stand out on the carvings in this area.

Isolated human figures with large hands or arms pointing downwards evoke the presence of individuals of non-warrior rank (shamans?), certainly non-combatants.
