Questo raffinato modello in terracotta rappresenta l’apparizione della Madonna con il Bambino a Santa Martina. Si tratta di uno studio preparatorio per uno dei bassorilievi destinati al ciborio dell’altare della chiesa dei Santi Luca e Martina a Roma, opera legata all’ambiente di Pietro da Cortona, tra i protagonisti del Barocco romano.

La scena è intensa e teatrale: Santa Martina, inginocchiata, è riconoscibile attraverso i simboli del suo martirio – la palma e l’uncino, strumento del supplizio. Davanti a lei, sospesa tra le nuvole, appare la Vergine con il Bambino. Gesù porge alla santa un giglio, simbolo di purezza e premio celeste.

Alle spalle della martire si intravedono elementi architettonici classicheggianti, come il basamento di una colonna e il pronao di un tempio, che conferiscono solennità e profondità alla composizione. Le fronde stilizzate sullo sfondo amplificano il senso di movimento e spiritualità.

Drosera commonly known as the sundews comprises one of the largest genera of carnivorous plants. The genus includes annuals and perennials, large and small plants, and denizens of tropical, temperate, and polar habitats.  These plants lure, capture, and digest insects using stalked mucilaginous glands covering their leaf surfaces. The insects are used to supplement the poor mineral nutrition of the soil in which they grow. 
Drosera capensis commonly known as the Cape Sundew is a South African endemic species found exclusively in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape Provinces. Drosera capensis is a free-flowering, robust, carnivorous, evergreen perennial, of varying height, but usually around 15cm. The short, woody stems are rhizomatous below with well-developed roots. From December to January the 15-30, simple, pink-mauve flowers are borne on a single stem and mature in ascending order.

Avevo più o meno 10 anni quando mia nonna Luciana decise di portare me e mio cugino Andrea a Roma per una vacanza. Era insolito per lei decidere di andare a visitare una città al posto di passare la solita settimana al mare, ma ancora più singolare è stata la scelta di portarsi appresso due piccole pesti come me e mio cugino. Nonostante le difficoltà nel tenerci calmi, il viaggio si rivelò un'esperienza bellissima che rimarrà per sempre impressa nei miei ricordi. 
L'ultimo giorno lo dedicammo a una passeggiata tra le vie affollate e ricche di souvenir che circondano il Colosseo. Proprio accanto a uno di questi negozi, fui catturato dalla copia del busto di una donna. Il tempo di girarmi per chiedere a mia nonna il permesso di prenderlo e mi accorsi che era sparita. Preso dal panico, scoppiai in un pianto così forte da spaventare il negoziante; l'uomo, per calmarmi, mi regalò la statuina e mi tenne compagnia fino a che mia nonna, disperata, riuscì a trovarmi.
