In ancient Greek mythology Ethiopian princess Andromeda was bound to a rock amid the waves of the Red sea. Why? Her mother, Cassiopeia boasted that Andromeda is far more beautifull then all the nymphs of the sea! This angered the god Poseidon who sent a monster creature, Cetus (Ketos) to torment people of ancient Ethiopia. The princess was to be eaten by a sea moster to soothe the anger of the god! In the very last moment a hero - Perseus flew (on Hermes winged sandals) and saved the princess from the vile beast.

When researching Andromeda, I could only find white, pale damsels in distress. Angered by this I wanted to depict Andromeda as a true African princess. I disliked the concept of a helpless damsel and decided to give her some character. I also wanted to portray Ketos as a bewildered sea dragon not an angry whale.

Andromeda & Ketos

This is not the original "La Danse" of Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, but a copy by Jean Juge in the façade of Opera Garnier in Paris, while the original one is in Orsay Museum since 1988. There were models of "La Danse" in Sketchfab, like jks_rnr's one (https://skfb.ly/CAOJ) - the very same model in Opera, or Geoffrey Marchal's one from Copenhagen, Denmark  (https://skfb.ly/FzGu). Nevertheless, there is a pleasure to take photos myself. 65 photos of 24MPixel are taken in Sunday morning the July 26th, 2015 with my Sony A6000 and 19mm prime lens. I like to add some context, so there is pedestal and stair of the Opera.

Comparing to the model of  jks_rnr uploaded several months ago, there is one  thumb missing (for real) in a hand of a nymph, what's a pity.

"La Danse" in Opera House of Paris

This is an imperial age marble Roman copy from an original Hellenistic statue dated II century B.C.
The statue has been located in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence since 1669.
This artwork represents the life size statue of a sleeping Hermaphroditus, son of Hermes and Aphrodite.
According to the Latin poet Publius Ovidius Naso, Hermaphroditus was a handsome guy who was transformed into an androgynous form after a supernatural union with the water nymph Salmacis. The nymph Salmacis fell in love with him but was not returned, so she prayed the gods to physically join him along with her traits inside his body.
Hermaphroditus lived the rest of his life both as a man and as a woman, feeling the two sexes at the same time.

Nymph of the goddess of spring Flora in the park of Schönbrunn Palace. The figure carries a vase crowned with flowers on its head. The sculpture by Johann Wilhelm Beyer dates from around 1776.

Remus Lupin is introduced in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. Rayman is the main protagonist of the Rayman series created by Ubisoft game designer Michel Ancel. He first appeared in 1995 on the Atari Jaguar, Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn, MS-DOS and the Sega Dreamcast. He is voiced by David Gasman. Rayman's catchphrase is known to be a highly exclaimed yelling of "YEAH!!" It is known that Globox might be his blood-brother according to the European Trailer of Rayman Origins. It is stated in Rayman 2: The Great Escape that he is the only creature not created by Polokus, but by the Nymphs.
