Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world, with the site measuring 162.6 hectares (402 acres). It was originally constructed as a Hindu temple of god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century. It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yaśodharapura, the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaiva tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.

This helmet, with its rather special appearance, is one of the few preserved objects that we know was owned by the Swedish king [Gustav Vasa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustav_I_of_Sweden). 

It was made in Germany in 1540, probably in Augsburg or Nuremberg, which were home to some of the most skilled armour makers of the time. The visor, the part that covers the face, did not originally belong to the helmet, but it is thought to be of the same period.

A helmet of this type was made not for battle but for celebratory occasions. In the 16th century, full suits of steel armour were the height of fashion. For parades and other royal festivities, the social elite would dress up in specially-made sets of costume armour with a close helmet. During these celebrations it became popular, in the early 16th century, to wear close helmets with grotesque visors in the form of animal or human faces, like this one, to enhance the festive atmosphere and heighten the sense of theatricality.

Model 66A - Atlantic Sturgeon

The archaeological ensemble of Melque is one of the most important historical sites of the High Middle Ages in Spain. It is located in the municipality of San Martín de Montalbán, just 30 kilometers from the city of Toledo. It consists of a very well preserved church, a monastery, several dams and a fence or wall. However, there is no consensus among experts about the date of its foundation. Some authors date it in the seventh century, in Visigothic times, while others consider that it was founded in the eighth century by Mozarabs, that is to say by Christians but under Muslim domination. The place was inhabited for centuries which has allowed the preservation of the church in an excellent state to this day.

Documented by Global Digital Heritage in September of 2018 using 1110 drone images, 112 terrestrial laser scans, and 1702 terrestrial photogrammetry images. These data were processed in Reality Capture.

Santa María de Melque (Toledo, Spain)

The Herculaneum boat was found during excavation work on the ancient shoreline of Herculaneum in 1982. It was found inverted on the shoreline, with the fore of the boat having been stoved in by other timber and debris from the eruption and completely destroyed. The hot pyroclastic flows that hit herculaneum carbonized the other 2/3rds of the boat and buried it, preserving it to this day. The vessel is 8.6 m long, 2.2 m wide, and about 85 cm deep. It was preserved up to the oarlocks, and most of the sternpost was preserved. After removing the boat from the shoreline, it sat in storage for awhile until a method was designer of flipping it over and excavating the inside. The boat is now on display at Herculaneum, along with other nautical equipment found on the shore including oars and a rudder fragment from other boats (but used here). The boat is yet to be fully published, the main resource for this reconstruction was an unpublished 2005 paper by Richard Steffy: https://tinyurl.com/mr2nzm7x

The British Rail Class 08 is a diesel-electric shunting locomotive. Nicknamed "Gronk" by rail enthusiasts, the shunter first saw use in 1952 and quickly became a common sight in rail yards across britain. In fact a total of 996 were produced, making it the most common locomotive to ever run on British railways, with 100 still being used in operation to this day, with another 70 preserved at heritage railways.


I attempted to make an interior for a change, I think it turned out quite well, even though it's mostly just there so it doesn't look empty when the light hits it right, which was a problem with my other locomotives.

British Rail Class 08

The Dalarö wreck is one of the world's best preserved 17th-century wrecks, lying at about 30 metres depth by Edesön off Dalarö. It was discovered in 2003 by the Marine Culture Society, and archaeologists from the Swedish Maritime Museum have investigated the site together with specialists from the University of Southampton and Södertörn University.
Although it is a fairly small ship, about 20 meters long, with a hold and six gun ports, its silhouette is similar to the larger warships. On and around the wreck are many objects – pottery, glass bottles, tools, handweapons, parts of the rigging, and baskets and crates. On the bottom rests the figurehead, depicting a roaring lion on its hind legs. Two masts are still standing.

In 2017, the ship was probably identified as Bodekull, a small frigate.

"Built in 1868, the Sellers Mansion is a three-story Second Empire brick house with a mansard roof that rivaled its outer suburban contemporaries in size, quality of craftsmanship, and attention to detail...Although carefully restored in the 1960s and adapted to a variety of community uses through the early 1990s, the mansion currently stands vacant and in an advanced state of deterioration...The building was included on the 2006 inventory of endangered buildings by Preservation Maryland. With advanced deterioration, work will need to begin soon if the building is to be preserved."

Model 67A - Largemouth Bass

Carranque is the site of a 4th century Roman villa that is protected as an archeological park by the Castile-La Mancha government. This villa contains some of the best preserved moasics in Spain. Across the floors of the villa are mosaics depicting the death of Adonis, two dogs named Leander and Titurus, and most recognized,  the god Oceanus, featuring crab antennas and claws and a wavy beard.

One naturally preserved watch tower of Great Wall in Hebei province, China.

By the name "Inner Great Wall", this section was built in the 14th century, it's the last defence line to keep the nomadic tribes out.

14th century Great Wall

The wreck is unusually well preserved for a ship built with clinker technique It was found in Stockholm archepelago by Niklas Ekström. It´s app 20 m long and 7,8 m wide. It also has its cargo still in place. There are a little over 30 barrels visible, mostly containing so called osmund iron. Barrels with tar, ash and butter is also found in the hold. The date of the ship is based on dendro. It date´s the wreck to 1540´s (provenance Stockholm) and has been repaired in the 1550´s (provenance, south of Finland). All dated timbers are pine.
The wreck has three masts and all it’s the rigging seems to be intact at the site. Blocs, deadeyes and the bowsprit i visible at the wreck site. Personal belongings, copper pot in the stove and som fabrics are also visible. 
Iron exports was then, and still is, one of Sweden’s most important exports but the knowledge of historic cargo ships, the trade routes and the quality of the iron is almost unknown. This wreck will be surveyd together with Jernkontoret 2021 and forward.

The Osmund wreck

The Pula Arena (Croatian: Pulska Arena; Italian: Arena di Pola) is a Roman amphitheatre located in Pula, Croatia. It is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have four side towers entirely preserved. It was constructed between 27 BC and AD 68, and is among the world’s six largest surviving Roman arenas. The Arena was built between 27 BC and 68 AD, as the city of Pula became a regional centre of Roman rule, called Pietas Julia. The building is named after the sand (Latin harena) that once covered the inner, performance area. It was built outside the town walls along the Via Flavia, the road from Pula to Aquileia and Rome. The amphitheatre was first built in timber during the reign of Augustus (2–14 AD). It was replaced by a small stone amphitheatre during the reign of emperor Claudius. In 79 AD it was enlarged to accommodate gladiator fights by Vespasian and to be completed in 81 AD under emperor Titus. This was confirmed by the discovery of a Vespasian coin in the malting.

Model 71A - American Eel

Japanese armor type "Tosei dö gusoku" with helmet or "kabuto". It was part of the Romero Ortiz Collection, related in its 1888 Catalog to Daniel Datto and the context of the Philippine War. The warriors of ancient Japan or Samurai, belonged to a military elite at the service of a Daimyo or feudal lord. Their armor, the basis of their defensive clothing, consisted of different components that covered the entire body, pieces that evolved into forms of great showiness and a precious finish, especially in the Edo period. Edo period (1603-1868). In the collection of the Spanish National Army Museum (Toledo, Spain). Catalog number MUE-43243. 3D model made using the Artec Leo scanner. Processing completed in Artec Studio Professional with additional processing completed in Geomagic Wrap.

This work is part of the collaboration agreement signed in 2021 between the Ministry of Defence (Spain) and Global Digital Heritage for the digitization of the collections preserved by the Spanish National Army Museum.

Japanese armor, Edo period (1603-1868)

The railway signal box "Bt", located in Bytom is one of the few preserved overhead signal boxes in Poland. It was built in the 1930s and gained its current form after a rebuilding that likely took place in the 1970s. Due to the modernization of the Bytom station, it was taken out of service in 2022. 

The building has since been renovated, but I decided to recreate it in its pre-renovation state, as it offers a great opportunity to develop my texturing skills. To achieve the best possible result, this time I decided to use a higher texel density (3px/cm instead of 1-1.5px), and I carefully recreated the peeling paint entirely by hand. Working on this model taught me not to be overly perfectionistic and to know when to say “stop” — because trust me, you could keep tweaking the details forever!

Railway Signal Box - Bytom, Poland

Greek temple in Pötzleinsdorf Palace Park in Vienna's 18th district.
Around 1750, the estate belonged to Johann Josef Count Khevenhüller. In 1762, Fabius Ricci ran a cloth shearing business there, which is why it became known as the “Riccian estate”. After several changes of ownership, Johann Heinrich Geymüller acquired the castle in 1797, had it renovated, extended it to include a Meierhof and bought the Pötzleinsdorf estate in 1802.

Some buildings from this period have been preserved, including the temple, also known as Preindl-Salettl - named after Maria Preindl, Geymüller's mistress. Writer Salomon Mosenthal (1821-1877) used it as a place to work during his summer stays in Pötzleinsdorf. The palace and park were once an important center of cultural and social life.

This is all that remains of *SS Rifle*, one of the earliest surviving examples of a small pre-fabricated screw steamer in the British Isles. *Rifle* was purchased by the Locheil Estate in the 1860s for use on Loch Arkaig, ferrying goods, passengers and mail between the isolated dwellings around the loch. 

As well as being a practical vessel, *Rifle* was also used for pleasure, often carrying shooting parties. 

The boat was laid-up in the 1930s, and whilst being scrapped, sank and lay buried until removed by the army after becoming a hazard to wartime vessels working from the pier. *Rifle* was blasted away from the pier, losing the bow in the process. 

Despite being submerged for over half a century, it was raised in 1990. Although in a very fragile condition, *Rifle's* propeller is a well-preserved example of an early design. 

The model was created as a part of ‘Scanning The Horizon’ 3D digitisation project.

Angel of a grave at the Sankt Marxer cemetery in the 3rd district of Vienna.

The Sankt Marxer Friedhof is a cemetery which was closed in 1874 and is now  under a preservation order. Originally there were more than 8,000 graves here, today 5,635 are still preserved. The City of Vienna runs the St. Marx Cemetery as a park open to the public.

Engel

The horn of Salt Diggers Brotherhood of Wieliczka is a unique Renaissance work of art commemorating the past wealth of Kraków salt mines. It is the only historical object of its kind preserved in Poland – a genuine horn of the aurochs, an ancestor of present-day cattle (the species became extinct in Poland in the 17th century). Framed in silver, it features a number of precisely executed metalwork techniques. Weighing almost 3 kilos, it was created in Kraków in 1534. The figure shown in the horn’s base is a salt miner, depicted as Hercules wearing antique armour. This representation symbolically emphasises the hard work of the Wieliczka salt diggers, excavating the precious mineral for hundreds of years.
