Ankh-khonsu was a doorkeeper in the Temple of Amun-Re at Karnak. He inherited his position from his father Ankh-en-amun. His brightly painted coffin lid is covered with images of protective deities. Particularly prominent are winged scarab (dung) beetles, symbols of rebirth. One sits on Ankh-khonsu’s head and encircles his face with its wings. A second scarab covers his chest. Both scarabs hold a shen hieroglyph, symbol of eternity, with their hind legs in place of a dung ball. Offering spells including Ankhkhonsu’s name are written on the outside of his coffin. Traces of resins (now black) and water poured over it during his funeral are visible on the top and sides of the coffin.

This wooden statue was made around 1900, on the Andeman and Nicobar Islands, near India. It was known as a kareau, or ’scare-devil’. Religious ritual healers made the statues, which the islanders believed had magical protective powers.

"Assyrian kings ruled the world's largest empire prior to the rise of Persia in the 6th century bc, consolidating lands from Iran to Egypt [...] Masterfully executed with incised details and exaggerated musculature, this giant, fierce, protective spirit raises his right hand in a ritual salute. His left hand grasps a branch bearing rosettes, perhaps a stylized date palm. Across the center of the relief are inscribed lines of Akkadian cuneiform recounting military victories, conquests, plundered loot, and the reconstruction of the city. Destroyed in 612 bc, the palace lay buried for 24 centuries until rediscovered in 1845."

Volcanic stone Ganesha, 10th - 11th C CE, now in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

From the sculpture's description on artsmia.org:

*'...In this classic tenth-century Javanese depiction, from the island of Java, Ganesha sits erect on a double lotus base. Pot bellied and with his chubby feet held tightly together, he eats sweetmeats from a bowl in his lower left hand. His headdress, made of braided locks, bears a protective crescent moon and skull. His lower right hand grasps a broken tusk, while his upper right hand holds a rosary topped with a pomegranate, a symbol of abundance. In his upper left hand, he displays a battle-axe used to counter evil. Ganesha images often decorated the principal niche in the western wall of a Shiva temple.'*

Ganesha, 10th - 11th C CE

English Archer Helmet, 15th ct., 1.6 mm steel. This particular helm is based not on what the nobles might have worn, but instead, on what the typical troop would have favored, possessing a straight-forward design that is both effective and protective, being shaped similarly to a barbute, of later 15th century Italian descent. It is made entirely from 16 gauge steel and features rivets about the skull-cap, as well as protection on the sides and back of the head and face, while leaving the front open, so as to not interfere with an archers vision or draw. The interior of the helmet also features a leather liner with an adjustable chin strap, which helps to make the helmet all the more comfortable and easy to wear. The helmet is based entirely on a historical piece, which is held in the Royal Armouries, in Leeds, England.

Preventing tick bites involves wearing protective clothing, using repellents, and checking for ticks after outdoor activities. Despite their reputation, ticks play a role in ecosystems, but their potential to spread disease makes awareness and prevention essential.

Dog Skeleton

Heideltraut is a major antagonist in the 2022 indie horror game The Heilwald Loophole. As the nurse in charge of the sick ward at the ominous Heilwald Klinikum, she presents as a strict, seemingly caring caretaker fiercely protective of her patients. Haunted by her heavy workload and the Klinik’s terrifying experiments, she’s become a wrathful, relentless guardian who pursues intruders with immense strength and thunderous stomps. Though knowledgeable in medicine, her methods are twisted—she’s implied to sedate and neglect patients to keep them quiet rather than heal them. Heideltraut never speaks, yet her presence looms large: she cannot be harmed or escaped from in her domain and will headbutt or throw the protagonist to block progress until you’re caught. Her mutated form and furious defense of the sick ward embody the horrific corruption of the Klinikum’s staff.

The 'Rock of the Sun' is to the right of the Rock of the Five Daggers.  The sun symbol is shown, very indistinctly on the 3D model, to the left of centre at the bottom of the panel.  Other Copper Age symbols - human figures & a zoomorphic figure, can also be faintly seen.  The preservation of the white pigment delineating some of the upper figures is very rare and due to the protective nature of the overhang above them.

There are also Christian-age crosses.  The sacredness of the site is attested to by the presence of the Christian shrine (chapel) consecrated to the Virgin Mary.

The statue of Saint Roch of Montpellier stands in front of the parish church in Falkenstein at the entrance to the church and is part of a Baroque group of figures lining the steps. Together with other statues of saints, it flanks the entrance to the sacred space, thereby serving a symbolic protective function. This statue of Asura, a protective deity from the “Eight Legions” of Buddhism with origins traceable to ancient Persia, is part of the “Twenty-Eight Deva Guardians” at Sanjūsangen-dō (Rengeō-in) in Kyoto. Created in the Kamakura period​ (13th century), this wooden, gold-leafed​ statue is designated a Japanese National Treasure. It depicts Asura with three faces and six arms, adorned with an ornate crown, a fierce expression, a bare torso, a skirt, and dynamic scarves, standing powerfully on a rock base. The arms are posed dynamically; while most hands likely originally held ritual implements, which are now missing. Nevertheless, the statue remains a powerful testament to the masterful realism and awe-inspiring artistry of the Kamakura period.
