The Tobacco Warehouse on 1103 N. Caroline St. was constructed for leaf tobacco storage circa
1875 by Becker Bros., a Baltimore firm formed by German immigrants.
Over the years the building has been a warehouse for the Baumgarten & Co.
toy manufacturers and stationers’, an upholstery shop, a roller skating
rink, a mattress factory, cabinet makers, a furniture repair shop, and
artist and maker studios.

New development has been proposed by Cross St Partners to convert it into a mixed use space for offices, production, and/or retail space.

Notes: RLA catalog no. 2501.1rp74 (cast).  Fossil discovered in 1959 by Mary Leakey and described by P. Tobias.  Represented the first reliable chronometric assessment of an early hominid.  Nearly complete cranium, called "Zinj."  Cast made by the Wenner-Gren Foundation Casting Program at the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania. The old building, a former 'lunatic asylum' in Columbia, South Carolina, opened in 1821, and was used to house traumatized veterans from the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865.

Gislebertus' Temptation of Eve (French: La Tentation d'Ève) was originally the lintel of the north door of the cathedral. It is stated that the Temptation of Eve was created around the 1130s at the same time in which the portail of the [Last Judgment](https://skfb.ly/oyTLY) and the narrative capitals were made. This large sculpture is now displayed in the Musée Rolin, Autun, France, restored in recent years.
