Romano-British London was abandoned in the late 5th Century CE and re-settled by Anglo Saxons in the early 7th Century.  This model is based on how a street scene may have looked in the late 9th Century - the Roman infrastructure and buildings decaying and becoming over-grown but the local Anglo Saxon community using the streets and buildings.  Its fortifications were re-inforced under the rule of Alfred the Great from 886 CE leading to the establishment of the City of London.

This model works well in UE5 - download as a gltf file.  Import into UE5 as a static mesh (either combined or seperate meshes in which case each element can be placed independently).

Roman Ruins in Medieval London

A building built by the Romans during their occupation of Britain (43 - 410 CE) - typical of a town house in Londinium (Roman London) - established in 47 - 50 CE.  The house would have been abandoned when the Romans left Britain and would have started to fall into disrepair but may have become occupied by early Anglo Saxons in the 5th or 6th Century.  Following frequent attacks the Vikings occupied the city in 871 CE until it was re-taken by the Saxons in 886 under the leadership of Kind Alfred of Wessex (Alfred the Great).

The model shows the house in a state of disrepair but perhaps with some renovations - by Vikings or Saxons - and some Viking chairs up on the balcony!

I have kept the poly count as low as possible and it should work well as a game asset - download the gltf file and load the scene file into Unreal - tick 'Combine mesh' box for a single static mesh or untick if you want to use the individual modules of the house in your scene.  You are free to use the model in any way.

This 3D model is a composite of images from an adult Striped Bass (Morone saxatilis) housed at the Maymont Nature Center (https://maymont.org/animals/nature-center/), and a scan from a preserved Striped Bass from the Natural History Collection at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (https://bcrc.bio.umass.edu/nhc/home).

CG artists Jer Bot, Johnson Martin and Robert Gutierrez used Blender to reconstruct the full fish from these scans and images, as well as animate the movements. A Hussar szyszak was a type of helmet commonly used by the troops of the Polish Hussars, similar to the pappenheimers used in Western Europe. Usually, it was decorated similarly to the Hussar armour – with trimmings and appliqué motifs of brass stamped with geometrical ornaments. There were a few variants of this helmet: with a tip on the top, a high crest, or fan-like wings on the skull (the latter was popular in the 1st half of the 18th century, during the Saxon’s reign).

The Bilton 4 stone, reproduced as a coloured polynomial texture map. Because of the much damaged and truncated nature of this piece of carving, the entry in to The Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Stone Sculpture is a little uncertain as to the correct interpretation, but suggests a representation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

Although much damaged, the left hand figure, to my eye, appears stockier in build as compared to that on the right, which appears more gracile - particularly at the waist. Given the similarities to the stone at Barwick, it seems entirely reasonable that this interpretation is the most likely.

This Roman Brooch was found at the Friends Burial Ground, a little south of Staines High Street. It is in fabulous condition, still retaining its pin and enamelling. The brooch would look great holding clothing in place and makes a real statement. It can been seen on display in Spelthorne Museum in a drawer under the main Roman display case, so please remember to open the drawers and investigate there. Along with the brooch you will see hair pins, a comb, mirror, rings and small spoons/scoops – everything you need to look you best.

Excavation (1976) by K. Crouch for LAMAS and DOE revealed a Romano British occupation site of late lst/2nd century date, abandoned 3rd century with some reoccupation in the 4th. There was evidence of 5th/6th century Saxon occupation; the site was given over to agriculture from the late Saxon period. (London Archaeol 2, 362-5).

So whilst watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jArSaX6NEKY I wondered if I could make the baseball procedurally.  This low poly result is a bevelled cube with the details mapped from two different shapes (the curve shapes that makes up the ball, and the 108 stitches). Threw on some textures and that's about it.

So now that is over, onto the fun stuff of making weird baseballs animated heads, thanks to Michael Pavlovich for the inspiration.

Inauguration Vase of Sihyaj Witzil Chan K’awiil

On July 25, 2017, USF CDHGI researchers conducted a 3D survey of the Pasco County sinkhole near Saxon Lake. We are also working to integrate data with collaboration from the USF School of Geosciences, who were collecting Ground Penetrating Radar survey data in conjunction with our GPS work. Additionally, Halo Imaging have been providing access to their RTK drone imagery that has been collected on multiple days and is allowing for meaningful comparison data. The DHHC and USF Libraries are creating a database archive of this research effort, and a web application portal that shares historic maps and information about the environmental history of this area (see: http://arcg.is/0LuCnL ).
