This large-scale  horizontal and vertical planing machine, also known as 'wallcreeper', was used to accurately create flat surfaces on large pieces of metal. It could plane both horizontal and vertical surfaces without altering the setting of the workplace. 

Manufacturers did a roaring trade when shipbuilders and associated companies placed orders. These machines, however, were built to last. This machine for example, was used in  Renfrew maintenance works of the Clyde Navigation Trust from 1906 until 1984, which shows how reliable such tools were. 

Scottish manufacturers such as Thomas Shanks & Co. produced machine tools for companies worldwide. The scale of Scottish production was huge, and the development of machine tools made the large-scale manufacture of iron and steel ships possible.

The artefact is a bronze pin brooch in its complete form, featuring a tall, trapezoidal pin holder. The bow and the pin are connected by a rivet, around which the pin can move. Both are extended beyond the rivet eye by two pliers-like jaws. When the pin is closed, these jaws press against each other and apply tension to the brooch. This is followed by a short, straight shank, which ends in a bent-up segment.

This 3D model represents a Twist Drill Bit (HSS 10mm), a commonly used cutting tool in machining and manufacturing processes. The model includes key features such as helical flutes, cutting edges, and a cylindrical shank.

Twist drill bits are widely used for drilling holes in materials like metal, wood, and plastic. The helical flutes help in chip removal and improve cutting efficiency.

**Dating:** 1250-1400  CE

The oval setting has a flat base with four holes arranged in a diamond pattern. The low rear frame is fitted with a ring plate bearing the retrograde inscription ‘+ADONAY+AGLA’ between two pearl-bead border lines. The semi-opaque red carnelian is cut into a faceted shape. Two ring shank fragments have a flat triangular cross-section. Due to the arrangement of the Inscriptions, it might have used as a signet ring. However, the inscription with the popular protective charm AGLA (the Kabbalistic name of God A[tha] G[ibbor] L[e-olam] A[donai]: you are strong in eternity, Lord) ADONAY could be attributed to a magical, again protective motif.

The iron riding spur or prong spur is characterised by a long stimulus with a pyramidal end. One of the shanks is broken off, while the other ends in a rectangular fastening element. It shows signs of severe corrosion. 
A spur is a curved piece of metal with a spike or wheel attached to riding boots, which is used when riding to support the leg aids. The spur can be used in two different ways: on the one hand, the use of the spur enables more precise signalling, and on the other hand, it can be used as a means of forcing the horse to obey.
