The Ming Great Wall (明長城; Ming changcheng), built by the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), forms the most visible parts of the Great Wall of China today. A comprehensive archaeological survey, using advanced technologies, has concluded that the Ming walls measure 8,850 km (5,500 mi) from Jiayu Pass in the west to the sea in Shanhai Pass, then looping over to terminate in Manchuria at the Hushan Great Wall.

The wreck is unusually well preserved for a ship built with clinker technique It was found in Stockholm archepelago by Niklas Ekström. It´s app 20 m long and 7,8 m wide. It also has its cargo still in place. There are a little over 30 barrels visible, mostly containing so called osmund iron. Barrels with tar, ash and butter is also found in the hold. The date of the ship is based on dendro. It date´s the wreck to 1540´s (provenance Stockholm) and has been repaired in the 1550´s (provenance, south of Finland). All dated timbers are pine.
The wreck has three masts and all it’s the rigging seems to be intact at the site. Blocs, deadeyes and the bowsprit i visible at the wreck site. Personal belongings, copper pot in the stove and som fabrics are also visible. 
Iron exports was then, and still is, one of Sweden’s most important exports but the knowledge of historic cargo ships, the trade routes and the quality of the iron is almost unknown. This wreck will be surveyd together with Jernkontoret 2021 and forward.

Baseball stadium 3d drone survey - Pix4d

Here is a 3D photogrammetric reconstruction of a young whale that came to rest at the bottom of the ocean near Davidson Sea Mount off of Monterey Bay, CA.  The species of this whale is still being determined, but it is speculated to be a young Grey or Humpback Whale, which are often predated upon by Killer Whales in the area.  The whale is approximately 4 to 5 meters in length and was found at a depth of over 3000m.
Researchers at the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the [E/V Nautilus](http://nautiluslive.org/video/2019/10/17/baleen-whale-fall-becomes-deep-sea-banquet-davidson-seamount) happened upon this whale in 2019, while surveying the nearby octopus brooding grounds.  Several octopus and species of bone-eating worms, called Osedax, which appear as red fur on the tail section, can be seen scavenging the whale. 

This model was reconstructed by a team at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute using approximately 600 still frames from video taken by ROV Hercules and the E/V Nautilus crew.

The first lighthouse in Iceland was built on Valahnúkur in Reykjanes in
the year 1878. By 1905 earthquakes and surf had damaged Valahnúkur
so much that there was the risk of the lighthouse falling into the sea.

A new lighthouse was therefore built in 1907-1908 on Bæjarfell hill in Reykjanes and the old one was demolished with an explosion on april 16th 1908. A survey which Rögnvaldur Guðmundsson supervised in 2007 for the Icelandic Maritime Administration led to the conclusion that Reykjanes lighthouse was the most popular lighthouse among Icelanders. The lightsignal height is 69 meters above sealevel but the actual height of the lighthouse is 26 metres. Reykjanes lighthouse also has a radio beacon with a correction signal. There is carved rock and concrete in the lighthouse. Architect Frederik Kjørboe and engineer Thorvald Krabbe designed the lighthouse. The operationof Reykjanes Lighthouse is under the supervision of the Icelandic Maritime Administration.

Red ochre grave in Ligga, Jokkmokk municipality, Norrbotten, Sweden. Due to the ongoing erosion in the area Norrbottens museum began a rescue survey of the stone setting in 2022.  The 3D-model shows the stone setting after the turf has been removed. 

In Norrbotten the burial tradition including stone settings filled with red ochre coloured sand can be dated to Late Mesolithic times. This tradition seems to have developed locally among people living around the Bothnian Bay.

In 2012 the ossuary underneath the Church of St. James was opened to public, more than 10 years after this unique place was discovered during the survey of the Brno underground in 2001.

3D Scan of an Antenna dagger with a sheath and a decorated handle from the Hallstatt cemetery (circa 600–400 BC) found in grave Nr.116. This Iron Age cemetery and the salt mine are among the most important archaeological sites in Austria, more than 1500 burials have been found so far.

The dagger can be found in Hall 12 of the NHM Vienna.

Maddoxtown Church ruin not far from Kilkenny along the old road to Bennettsbridge. It's not exactly in a great state. It is a small single-cell church building (no differentiation between chancel and nave), which seems to have been built using earth mortar construction with a lime mortar pointing and rendering. The earth mortar is exposed at the breach in the west gable. Only one window survives in the south wall. The south wall also has a buttress at its west end, the buttress on the north wall seems to have been collapsed, judging from the heap of stones there. The church was already a ruin at the time of the Down Survey (1650s).

There is also a beautifully carved baptismal font of the Ossory type still surviving in the graveyard (repaired). Worth a visit.

Among my memorable anecdotes from my construction projects: piloting and installing "umbrella arches":
The Tartaiguille Tunnel is a French railway tunnel on the LGV Méditerranée high-speed line. It is located in the municipalities of La Roche-sur-Grane and Roynac, in the Drôme department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It was opened in 2001 by SNCF. The umbrella arch installations were carried out using a 640 SM surveyor and Topo6tem software running on an HP200LX. The device is automatically controlled, as demonstrated by the example of a GEODIMETER SM540 installed on a Baechler console in 1998.

Norman era motte and bailey castles  on the Derbyshire side of the River Dove. The site is a Scheduled Monument and this drone survey is part of the regular condition survey of the site carried out by the Peak District National Park Cultural Heritage Team, for whom I volunteer.

Strade Dominican Friary, National Monument No. 172.  The abbey at Strade dates to the mid-13th century, when it first started as a Franciscan Friary, established by the Lord of Athlethan (Ballylahan), Jordan de Exeter. The Dominican friars moved into Strade in 1253. The priory was dedicated to the Holy Cross & was a daughter house of Sligo Dominican priory (SL014-068008-).  A papal indulgence granted in 1434  may have resulted in a rebuilding phase of the church.  The carving of the vulning pelican (from the Latin vulnerō, “to wound”) on the north wall of the crossing tower of the friary church dates from the 15th-century.  In Medieval Christianity, the pelican feeding its young with its own blood was a symbol for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross & the Eucharist.  Also known as the Pelican in Her Piety, the bird piercing it's breast to shed blood is an allegory of Christ on the Cross, a symbol of the Passion of Christ. Strade Abbey -The Vulning Pelican

Recumbent 15th-century chamfered cross-slab grave-cover measuring 1.91m long by 0.09m thick, the slab measures 0.88m wide which tapers to 0.74m, in the centre of the chancel of Portumna Dominican Friary church (GA127-019----), Co. Galway. The floriated Latin Cross is framed within a floriated border.  The shaft of the cross rises from an animal/possible lion based on possible depiction of mane running around the face of the animal.  Described in the Urban Archaeological Survey of County Galway as 'a slab, bears a Latin cross in low relief. The cross shaft (Wth 0.19m) is decorated with a repeated floral motif and there is a knotwork circle near the crossing. Each arm consists of a square panel: that to the S bears a Greek cross which was formed by subdividing the square into four segments decorated with fleur-de-lis motifs. The panel to the N has one large rosette.  An inscription below the N arm reads ‘HERN(?)LI’.  For more details visit: https://tinyurl.com/4fcx6msj
