This 3D skull model was created by laser scanning the Museum's iconic *Diplodocus carnegii* cast.

Rotate, zoom in and explore the features of this popular dinosaur.

Dippy was the first *Diplodocus* (DIP-low-DOCK-us) to go on display anywhere in the world when it was gifted to the Museum in 1905. It quickly became a star, capturing hearts and imaginations.
Dippy then left the Museum in 2017 to complete a whirlwind tour of the UK. The skeleton will be on display at the Museum from 27 May until 2 January 2023.

To mark this event, we have prepared a set of 3D printable files which can be downloaded and printed on a conventional desktop 3D printer and assembled to create a three-quarter scale model of the skull, or a model which can be compiled from laser cut sections of cardboard.

Dippy skull

Nickname: "CGI Searchlights"

Logo: We zoom-out from a golden rotating model of Earth, to reveal it is the standard 1994 20th Century Fox logo except with "FOX WORLD" instead of "20th CENTURY FOX". The "O" is the golden model of Earth. The byline, "A FOX TELEVISION STUDIOS COMPANY" fades-in when the logo forms.

Variants:
* A sped-up version exists.
* Two shortened variants exist. In some cases, the logo begins by zooming out of the structure. In other cases, the camera is already in the finished spot, with the searchlights moving in the background.
* In Troca de Familia, an additional copyright stamp fades in during the zoom-out. This copyright stamp fades out before the byline fades in.
* An in-credit version showing a screenshot or a print version of the logo exists.
The placement of the byline could differ.
* FX/SFX: The zoom-out, the searchlights moving and the Earth rotating. This was animated by Flip Your Lid Animation, who also animated the 1994 standard logo.

Fox World (2001)

Nicknames: "CGI Shield", "Shield in the Sky II", "CGI WB Shield", "Shield of Staleness II", "The Reflection of the WB Backlot", "Shield of Steel II"

Logo: A picture of the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank is seen with a gold tint, and "ripples" slowly before rotating to reveal itself as the WB shield over the quintessential cloud skyline, both of which are now redone in CGI. The shield rotates and zooms out to its usual position, with the company byline fading in underneath.

Trivia: If one pauses right before the transition from the backlot image to the shield animation, posters and murals can be seen on the studio walls on Olive Avenue. As seen in the 75 Years montage, the posters from left to right are: Twister, The Stars Fell on Henrietta, Les Miserables, Space Jam, a The WB Television Network KTLA 5 advertisement, ER, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Murphy Brown, Friends, and a cloud mural featuring shows from Warner Bros. Television, dating the image to somewhere between early to mid 1996.

Warner Bros. (1998-1999) - 75th Anniversary

The camera is in a very particular spot so you can gaze up and look all around at our magnificent galactic neighborhood as our mother-ship planet tumbles  through space and time, unfortunately I was not able to lock the camera in such a way that did not avoid clipping through the ground when looking up, so please don't zoom or pan the camera away from the position it is in,  of course I encourage you all to rotate/look around with the camera though.

Starry Night

Give the model a spin. Notice how it is spinning around a central point and that central point is not at the center of the model? A pivot fix is in order! Just double-click on the background (or press spacebar on PC) to center the model (or its bounding box, to be exact). Now spin it around again and see how the model is easier to explore.

If you want to center and zoom into different parts of the model (e.g., the butterflies), double-click on them and the pivot will be adjusted again.

This technique can be used both when you are setting up your model in the 3D Editor and when you are viewing models with misplaced pivots.

For Pro members and above, you can set the pivot by activating camera constraints and moving the gizmo where you want the pivot to be. Then click on Save View.

In 1929, Hedin travelled to China with the mission to procure a Lamaistic temple to the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1933. An exact model was manufactured at the architect W. H. Liang's workshops in 1932 in Beijing. Two smaller models in scale 1:10 were also made. One of them was sent to Chicago as well. The other was taken to the Ethnographic Museum in Stockholm. Logo: On a smoky blue background, we see the letters of "VIACOM" in a glass font zooming out, being stacked in front of each other, then spreading out. The background is full of the letters of the word along with a blue smoke effect that slowly clears out. After "VIACOM" settles, the text "PRODUCTIONS" in Futura Extra Bold moves up ala the "Float In" animation of Microsoft PowerPoint, with a line and the byline "a Paramount company" (in the Paramount Pictures logo's font) fading in below it.

Viacom Productions 1999 Logo Remake

Scanned in just 25 minutes with the metrology-grade laser scanner Artec Point, the transmission's fine elements are all captured in this high-res 3D replica. The complex combination of components, from the gear sets to the shifting mechanism, is vividly displayed. 

Despite the transmission's shiny and reflective metallic cast and challenging surface roughness, Artec Point's advanced scanning technology captured all of it. The resulting point cloud was optimized for precision, even with a 0.2mm resolution. For future scans of similarly sized objects, we recommend a resolution of at least 0.4mm to reduce processing time.

This model is ideal for reverse engineering, quality inspection, industrial design, rapid prototyping, and beyond. Zoom in and rotate to take a closer look and experience the power of Artec Point's ultra high-resolution scanning technology.

Nicknames: "V of Doom", "Big V", "Zooming V", "Viacom V", "That V"

Logo: On a sky blue (or lavender) background, the text "A Viacom Presentation" in a Palatino-like typeface zooms in from the center of the screen at a very fast pace, then stops abruptly (on the filmed variant) when it gets near to the screen. Then, a fancy-cut, navy blue "V" (a downward trapezoid with a curved line in the near center) zooms in from the center and moves gradually closer and closer to the screen. When it gets to the point where the "V" takes up nearly the entire screen, the screen suddenly cuts to black or fades to black (depending on the version of the logo), with the "V" presumably still moving ever closer.

Viacom 1976 Logo (Filmed Version) Remake

2.5D / 3D hybrid drawn on Google Tilt Brush. The best way to get used to a new medium is to practice with them old masters (Georges Seurat)! There's a little Ferris Bueller touch in there as well (zoom out). Wondering if the marker texture can be loaded in from TB?

This scan is part of the work to compare different scanner types and brands for different tasks on behalf of Digisam. Digisam coordinates the digitization of 22 heritage institutions. www.digisam.se

This model is made photogrammetrically with a zoom lens and autofocus. That is not recommended as it gives distortion to the images. I have made it so I can compare to a fix lens, fix focus model and both of those to the laserscans.
