Real-time Bones Demo: Phoenix Bird

This is a 3D animation ("Shelly") of a near-adult loggerhead (ID=982.000406129037) sea turtle (*Caretta caretta*, straight carapace length=86 cm) that was initially captured on June 23, 2017 by the Inwater Research Group, and then photgraphed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras.  Photographer Christine Shepard operated the cameras and the sea turtle was released that same day in good condition.  The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Animator Johnson Martin  used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center each provided feedback on the movements.

Model 47A - Loggerhead Sea Turtle

This is an animation (“Mar”) of a hatchling Hawksbill (ID Ei1801) sea turtle (*Eretmochelys imbricata*, straight carapace length 11.8 cm) that was initially rescued by the Loggerhead MarineLife Center, and then photographed with the Beastcam technology with 30 Canon G16 cameras. The sea turtle was released soon after in good condition. The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Animator Johnson Martin used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center each provided feedback on the movements

Model 50A - Hawksbill Sea Turtle

Saw this on a highway driving through Nevada, so I HAD to capture it.

In what must have seemed like a good idea at the time, the owners of the brothel promoted an interesting challenge with a very naughty prize. A mattress would be placed in the center of a large star painted on the desert floor—if one were to parachute out of an airplane (airplane provided) and land on the mattress, they would be the lucky winner of a night with the lady of his choice, on the house!

Unsurprisingly, things went horribly wrong. Long story short, scantily-clad women plus distracted, inexperienced pilot plus heavy cross winds equal the plane plummeting straight into the ground. This is an attempt at squeezing the entirety of [1st Floor State Rooms The Hallwyl Museum](https://sketchfab.com/TheHallwylMuseum/collections/the-hallwyl-museum-1st-floor-state-rooms) into a single model, ready for viewing in webVR. The original models were decimeted and textures rebaked using the open source 3D editor [Blender](http://blender.org).

The original models were created by [Erik Lernestål](https://www.eriklernestal.com/index) for the musuem and are reused under [Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).

Subsurface scattering (SSS) simulates the effect of light scattering inside an object. It is useful for translucent materials like skin, wax, and ice. Subsurface Scattering (SSS) Demo: Lara

This is a 3D animation ("Scallywag") of a juvenile green sea turtle (ID=CM1648) (*Chelonia mydas*) that was captured on December 23, 2016 by the Loggerhead MarineLife Center at Blowing Rocks Preserve.  The turtle was attacked by a shark, but survived.  It was photographed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras by Christine Shepard.

The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.  Animator Jer Bot used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center provided feedback on the movements.

Location underground laboratory

This is an animation of an subadult Atlantic Sturgeon.

This 3D model is a composite of images from a subadult Atlantic Sturgeon  (Acipenser oxyrhynchus oxyrhynchus) housed at the Maymont Nature Center (https://maymont.org/animals/nature-center/), and a scan from a preserved Atlantic Sturgeon from the Natural History Collection at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (https://bcrc.bio.umass.edu/nhc/home).

CG artists Jer Bot, Johnson Martin and Robert Gutierrez used Blender to reconstruct the full fish from these scans and images, as well as animate the movements. World Trade Center is the original complex that once stood in New York from the start of construction in 1966 groundbreaking, until they were destroyed on September 11, 2001. The complex was opened to public on April 4, 1974; although some buildings were not built or completed yet at the time. It consisted of 7 buildings, the famous being were the twin towers that were once the world's tallest buildings for only 2 years when they were surpassed by Willis (Sears) Tower. Of course, these twin towers ended the Empire State Building's 40 year reign. The old 7 World Trade Center was the last building to be built in that complex, which was built in 1987 and the last building to fall on 9/11 about 7 hours after the North Tower (tower with antenna) fell. The North Tower (1 WTC) was 1,368 feet tall and 1,728 feet with the antenna, while the South Tower (2 WTC) was 1,362 feet tall. They were very famous and appeared in many movie films, they were also an icon of New York City.

DogDay is an anthropomorphic orange-furred dog with black eyes, floppy ears, a black nose, and a yellow outer mouth and belly. His paws and ears, along with the left side of his face, have a copper-red color. Similar to the other Smiling Critters, DogDay is depicted with a wide toothless grin (the inner mouth shrouded in darkness), and he possesses a black zipper line running down his center, with the zipper sporting a gold sun pendant with orange sun rays.

DogDay’s cartoon appearance is roughly the same as his toy appearance, albeit with his zipper line removed, the addition of white pupils, and the zipper pendant now attached to a black necklace.

Dog Day - Poppy Playtime Chapter 3

I used python and blender to precisely position (units are [parsecs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsec)!) 10000 stars from the [HYG Database](https://github.com/astronexus/HYG-Database). 

The star-planes are randomly rotated though, and keep in mind that the center icosphere representing the earth is exaggeratingly big - by a small factor of about 1.5 billion!!

The (short and ugly) bit of python script I used to make this visualization is available on [PasteBin](https://pastebin.com/0vhdGz59) if anyone is interested!

I am quite happy with the look of this model, stars use a transparent/emissive material mapped to the vertex colors created in blender (from each star "color index" if available in the database), and enhanced with some bloom to create halos... 

Next ideas: plot 100.000 neighbor stars, and maybe the Milky Way from ESA's [Gaia Archive](http://gea.esac.esa.int/archive/). That'd be really awesome!

This re-education center in Kashgar city, Kashgar was initially constructed as a school. In 2017 as the crackdown began it was converted into a large scale re-education facilitity. 
It has been heavily featured in propaganda efforts after it was sanitised in late 2018/early 2019. 
Recently, it has been completely desecuritised and satellite imagery suggests that it potentially being decomissioned. 
This model shows the facility during 2018.
