Santorini Thera is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 120 mi southeast from the Greek mainland. It's the largest island of a small, circular archipelago, which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. Santorini includes the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia, as well as the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi and Christiana. The total land area is 34.990 sq mi

The island was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history: the Minoan eruption (sometimes called the Thera eruption), which occurred about 3,600 years ago at the height of the Minoan civilization. The eruption left a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of metres deep. It may have led indirectly to the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, 68 mi to the south, through a gigantic tsunami.  The Thera eruption may be the source of the legend of Atlantis.

Santorini - Thera Greek Minoan Volcano Island

Cuween Hill Chambered Cairn, near Finstown, Mainland, Orkney, is a late Neolithic (c.3200-2300 BC) 'Maes Howe'-type tomb.  The tomb is located on the side of the hill and the floor is cut into sandstone bedrock.  The chambers are constructed from fine dry-stone walling with corbelled roofs.  The mound measures c.55 feet in diameter and the main chamber is 8 feet 6 inches tall.

The tomb was partly excavated by James Cursiter in 1888 and more extensively investigated by Malcolm M. Charleston in 1901.  The tomb contained at least 8 burials and the skulls of 24 dogs.  The latter may have been a totemic animal, but they were probably deposited in the Bronze Age rather than the Neolithic.  The tomb sites above the Neolithic settlement site of Stonehall, which was excavated by Prof Colin Richards in the 1990s.

Ceres – Dwarf Planet 3D Model

This Ceres – Dwarf Planet 3D Model represents the largest object in the asteroid belt and the only dwarf planet located in the inner solar system. Io – Volcanic Surface Study

This model depicts Io, one of Jupiter’s Galilean moons and the most volcanically active body in the solar system. Io’s surface is dominated by vast lava plains, volcanic calderas, and sulfur-rich deposits created by intense tidal heating from Jupiter’s gravitational pull.

Bright regions represent sulfur and sulfur dioxide frost, while darker and warmer tones indicate areas of active or recently solidified lava. The striking color variation is a defining feature of Io and reflects its continuously changing surface, which is reshaped by volcanic activity rather than impact cratering.

This visualization emphasizes large-scale geological features and color contrast to convey Io’s extreme and unstable environment. The model is optimized for real-time viewing and focuses on clarity, form, and surface dynamics.

Io - Jupiters Moon 3D Model

**Bird’s Foot Delta — Mississippi River**

This model represents the Bird’s Foot Delta of the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana, USA. The delta is characterized by long, narrow distributary channels extending into the Gulf of Mexico, forming a shape that resembles a bird’s foot. The landscape forms as river sediments are transported downstream and deposited where the river meets the ocean, gradually building new land over time.

The terrain model was generated from a 1-meter resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) obtained from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and distributed by OpenTopography.

Bird Foot Delta

Spondylus crassisguama shell, without human intervention (Cotom, 2020). These were highly prized objects and were especially used to collect blood offered in self-sacrifice rituals. They were deposited in hidden offerings (caches), with sacred objects such as jade beads, shark teeth, or stingray spines.  One name that describes this shell is Yohl ik'nal, ""the heart/center of the shell,"" as something divine or precious (according to comments by epigraphers David Stuart and William H. Mex).

This model was generated from 466 images taken with an Olymppus TG-6 using the Agisoft Metashape software. The wreck is a local landmark on the beach at Pendine, South Wales, and is the Francis Beddoe, a wooden ketch of 250 tons built at Saundersfoot in 1872. It was the last vessel from the yard of Francis Beddoe on Railway Street (now The Strand). The ketch was originally registered at Milford Haven and was the property of widow Mrs B Maria Beddoe, after her husband died. Short reports appear in local newpapers relating to incidents in the ketch's service life, such as a court case in where a deposit had been paid for the vessel to the executor of Francis Beddoe's will, but the vessel was actually sold to another person.The ketch was bound from Bideford to Tenby with cargo of gravel when it went ashore on Pendine Sands on 8 March 1924. Polychrome tripod plate (red, black, and cream) with divergent walls, a medial flange, and a convex base featuring a central conical circular perforation. The supports are cylindrical, hollowed, and include rattles. The surface decoration consists of a rim with a black band and line, followed by a cream-colored band with geometric designs outlined in black. At the center, the figure of the God K’awil is represented, outlined in black, red, cream, and orange. Gypsum that was deposited during the Messinian salinity crisis. In the center of the outcrop a well-developed nucleation cone is visible, made of individual selenite gypsum cristals up to 30 cm long which radiate upwards and outwards. Cuevas de Sorbas (a few meters from the cave entrance), Andalusia, Spain. Lat 37˚05‘19.42’‘N, Lon 2˚06‘27.68’‘W, elevation 340 m.

Gypsum is an evaporite mineral most commonly found in layered sedimentary deposits in association with halite, anhydrite, sulfur, calcite, and dolomite. Gypsum is very similar to Anhydrite. The chemical difference is that gypsum contains two waters and anhydrite is without water. Gypsum is the most common sulfate mineral.

Gypsum uses include: manufacture of wallboard, cement, plaster of Paris, soil conditioning, a hardening retarder in portland cement. Varieties of gypsum known as "satin spar" and "alabaster" are used for a variety of ornamental purposes; however, their low hardness limits their durability.
