He wears a loincloth with a decorated belt and an elaborate turban composed of elements evoking textiles, crowned by a feline mask or face at the top. The arms and shoulders are adorned with ribbons and ropes. Across the chest, he wears a necklace with plaques, followed by another necklace made of large rings from which a trophy head appears to hang. The head is suspended upside down, resembling a ceremonial pectoral, and from it hang four long fringed ribbons that may artistically represent the victim’s hair. The hollow structure of the piece and the blowing mouthpiece located on the back indicate its sound-producing function.

Incised lines across the facial area, possibly alluding skin folds. Anthropomorphic whistle in the form of the Maize God in a dancing pose, with the heel of the right foot slightly raised. The left hand rests on the hip, while the right arm is directed upward. He wears an elaborate headdress made of maize leaves and a loincloth with a belt decorated with beads. Among the surrounding foliage, a maize cob (mazorca) and a bird can be distinguished. Two additional small animals, a small deer (Odocoileus virginianus) and an opossum (Didelphis marsupialis), are positioned on either side of his legs. The blowing mouthpiece is located on the lower part of the piece.

Bird Whistle

Anthropomorphic whistle in the form of a seated woman with her legs flexed forward. She wears a dress with a wide neckline that leaves the shoulders exposed and short sleeves. Her hair is tied up with a textile bow, and the bangs are cut in a stepped style characteristic of the Usumacinta River region. She wears a necklace, earspools, and wristbands, and in her right hand holds what may be a petate (woven mat), a rolled piece of cloth, or a bundle of small sticks. The whistle mouthpiece is located at the front, between the legs. Traces of white and blue pigment remain. The figurine was produced using a mold with hand-modeled details.

The ocarina is decorated with a medial molding around the rim and the torso of a figure, possibly the Maize God, modeled and attached over the center hole. The deity has an elongated head and arms flexed across its chest. It wears a three-banded headdress with feathers, round ear ornaments, a necklace of spherical beads, and wristbands. The tips of the feathers and the jewelry still retain the blue paint.

Zoomorphic whistle depicting a crouching figure, with the legs spread to either side and the hands resting on the abdomen. The face resembles that of a monkey, wearing a helmet in the form of a bird’s head. The body is oval, with a longitudinal molding along the center, imitating the shape of a cacao pod or a gourd. Two short wings, or possibly foliage elements, emerge from behind the shoulders. The figure wears a necklace with vertical incisions. The blowing mouthpiece is located at the tail, and the tone holes are placed at the base of the nape. Possibly originating from the Alta Verapaz region. The object was made using a mold, with details finished by hand.
