Rhyolite is a ghost town in Nye County, in the U.S. state of Nevada. It is in the Bullfrog Hills, about 120 miles (190 km) northwest of Las Vegas, near the eastern edge of Death Valley. The town began in early 1905 as one of several mining camps that sprang up after a prospecting discovery in the surrounding hills. Fountain basin with Muse Erato in Baden near Vienna. This fountain with the lyre-playing Muse Erato is located on Theaterplatz. The figure from 1902 was designed by Josef Valentin Kassin and stood until 1973 in a flower arrangement in front of the theater. Then followed the transformation into a fountain.

Erato is one of the nine muses in Greek mythology. She is the muse of love poetry of lyricism, song and dance. She is a daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne.

It was designed by Joakim Skovgaard in collaboration with Thorvald Bindesbøll and features a bull in combat with a dragon. The design was originally created as an entry in the competition for a new monument on Amagertorv. Skovgaard conceived the original idea and made the first model in 1889. It was then modified by Bindesbøll before Skovgaard created the final drawings. The Dragon Fountain's first part, without the central animal group, was inaugurated in 1904. The fountain was surrounded by a low, outer basin in 1908. A plaster model of the central composition was on display in the fountain from 31 May until 7 June 1915. Tsukubai (Japanese stone water basin)

The Hygieia Fountain is a lead-cast statue fountain created by Johann Martin Fischer and erected in 1787 at public expense. It stands in the forecourt of the Josephinum (9th District, Währinger Straße 25).

The depiction of the goddess Hygieia—symbol of health—directly reflects the function of the building behind it, constructed between 1783 and 1785 as a training institution for physicians and military doctors and today housing, among other facilities, the Institute and Museum for the History of Medicine.

The central figure is a calm, classically inspired female statue dressed in antique-style drapery, standing on a high pedestal. In her left hand she holds a bowl from which a snake drinks, while another snake coils around her right arm—traditional attributes of Hygieia. The pedestal and octagonal basin are made of stone, while the basin railing and water spouts, designed as Medusa heads, are crafted from metal.

**Tyrannovenator viridispinus: A New Apex Predator from Mongolia**

In 2024, a joint Mongolian–Japanese expedition led by Dr. Ayako Sato uncovered a remarkably preserved theropod specimen in the Nemegt Basin. Named *Tyrannovenator viridispinus*—“Green-Spined Tyrant Hunter”—this Late Cretaceous predator measured approximately 8 meters in length and bore a distinctive row of keratinous spines along its back and tail, likely used for display or intimidation.

The fossil’s integument revealed preserved chromatophores, suggesting a complex pattern of blue, green, and red pigmentation, an unprecedented find in large carnivorous dinosaurs. Its robust jaw structure and clawed limbs indicate a powerful ambush hunter, while its coloration challenges assumptions about camouflage in apex predators. The discovery of *T. viridispinus* marks a significant leap in understanding theropod visual signaling and ecological dynamics in prehistoric Asia.

A free miniature for all of you to enjoy.   This little rat miniature fits on 25mm bases and prints as a single, presupported piece with minimal post-support artefacts that can be easily sanded down.  A bit of a behind-the-scenes:  Sculpting characters with accurate proportions is always a challenge to me, unlike basing bits and terrain elements I always focus upon. But this one came up pretty good. Also, my adventures with Nomad Sculpt continue. The blades were first modeled in Blender, as I prefer it for hard surface modeling.  I also started learning how to draw a few months ago, although for the background of this mini, I simply line traced the already sculpted miniature.

🌕 Moon Near Side – Lunar Terrain Model

This 3D model represents a section of the Moon’s near side, the hemisphere that is permanently visible from Earth.

The terrain is based on real elevation data provided by NASA and covers an area approximately 400 km across. The scale is significantly reduced, and vertical features may be slightly exaggerated to make surface details easier to observe.

Compared to the far side of the Moon, the near side appears smoother due to ancient volcanic activity. Large lava flows filled many impact basins, forming the darker, flatter regions known as maria, while craters remain visible across the surface.

This is a localized terrain model intended for visualization and 3D printing, not a full representation of the Moon. Fine details are limited by resolution and scaling.

Rock 57 is close to the back cliff and in a more elevated position than the surrounding context. The carved surface has been deeply shaped by glacial action and faces its main side towards the wall behind it.  A large petrograph spreads throughout the entire rock, nearly occupying the entire space. The dominant element is a large grid with smaller cup-marks in each square.  The carving is enclosed by a perimeter line. 

In its middle-upper part, in a small basin, the figure shows sub-oval and rectangular elements filled with ordered cup-marks.  This type of large grid pattern is very similar to another rock at nearby Pia d-Ort (Rock 39) but, although resembling a map, is quite different from the Bedolina maps on the plateau directly above, at the top of the back cliff.
