Vase with the image of an Armadillo

Zoomorphic ocarina, with the image of a spider monkey seated and with hits legs bent, with the left hand resting on the knee. The figure wears a twisted fabric as necklace and oversized elongated ear pendants. As an instrument it has 3 chambers, with a blow chamber in the upper section. The mouthpiece of direct blow, on top of the head, makes it look bulgy. It has 2 tone holes (one on the front and two on the back (Rodens et al, 2013: 134)

Ocarina with the shape of a Monkey

The 'Rock of the Sun' is to the right of the Rock of the Five Daggers.  The sun symbol is shown, very indistinctly on the 3D model, to the left of centre at the bottom of the panel.  Other Copper Age symbols - human figures & a zoomorphic figure, can also be faintly seen.  The preservation of the white pigment delineating some of the upper figures is very rare and due to the protective nature of the overhang above them.

There are also Christian-age crosses.  The sacredness of the site is attested to by the presence of the Christian shrine (chapel) consecrated to the Virgin Mary.

Valcamonica, Capitello Due Pini - Plas (2)

Zoomorphic effigy vessel, tetrapod, Ulúa style, carved in alabaster or marble. The vessel features two perimeter grooves below the rim and a basal molding. Two bird heads, with open eyes and closed beaks, extend from the wall functioning as handles.

Bifacial zoomorphic hacha. It represents a feline with open eyes defined by circular depressions, an elongated, open snout revealing several teeth. The head bears an oval perforation near the eye, while the snout presents two additional oval perforations.

Hacha with skull features

Miniature Teotihuacan-style incense. The lid depicts a figure wearing a tall headdress with zoomorphic design, with open eyes and mouth, followed by a band with four floral motifs. The face is painted red and displays open eyes, an aquiline nose with a nose ornament, earflares, and a necklace with circular beads. The figure features extended arms, holding two rectangular shields; at the center of the torso there is a horizontal band with a circular appliqué in yellow and red. The bowl has a convex base, a pedestal support, and rectangular handles on the sides. The decoration includes a central talud design, with a red horizontal band at the upper section and another at the lower section, as well as circular appliqués in the middle zone of the bowl.

Incense Burner

Stone artifact with a convex surface, worked in a crescent shape. The exterior surface bears features of a zoomorphic face, including round eyes with pronounced supraorbital ridges, a flat nose, and a closed mouth curving downward. Each end of the piece has two perforations, one upper and one lower, intended for attachment. This artifact may represent a knee guard or thigh protector associated with the Mesoamerican ballgame.

The ceramic rim piece shows only minor signs of weathering. The rim is semi-oval in shape and slopes inwards around the circumference. The surface is evenly smoothed both inside and outside. The clay is characterised by a fine, slightly rough and hard texture. The colour of the artefact is a light orange-brown, with traces of red paint visible on both the interior and exterior surfaces.The outer edge of the object features an appliqué in the shape of a flat, triangular goat’s head. This is positioned at a slight angle and has slit-like eyes and forward-facing ears.

This object was digitized through the ‘Kulturerbe digital’ program of the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Public Service and Sport.

Ceramic flute representing a serpent with a tubular, elongated body. Modeled features include fangs, eyebrows, and scroll motifs over the nose and head. From its open jaws emerges the figure of a skull.

The forelegs, facial features, and body with a protruding abdomen are clearly articulated. A functional opening indicates its use as a jar for the storage of liquids. The vessel dates to the Late Classic period and originates from the Guatemalan Highlands.

Rectangular bone artifact with incised decoration filled with hematite on one of its surfaces. The scene depicts a scroll motif and what appears to be a zoomorphic (serpentine) design. One end presents a serrated or dentated edge. The object may have functioned as a comb.
