This approximately 4.5-meter marble statue was part of Pope Clement XI's commission for twelve colossal apostle figures to fill the niches designed by Francesco Borromini. Ottoni was among the sculptors involved in this project. St Jude, one of the Twelve Apostles, is traditionally depicted holding a club (the instrument of his martyrdom) or a scroll (representing his Epistle). The statue presents a solemn and dignified figure, reflecting the typical Baroque style of religious representation.
