Qumran is an archaeological site in the West Bank managed by Israel's Qumran National Park. It is located on a dry plateau about 1.5 km (1 mi) from the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea, near the Israeli settlement and kibbutz of Kalya. The Hellenistic period settlement was constructed during the reign of John Hyrcanus, 134–104 BCE or somewhat later, and was occupied most of the time until it was destroyed by the Romans in 68 CE or shortly after. It is best known as the settlement nearest to the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden, caves in the sheer desert cliffs and beneath, in the marl terrace. The principal excavations at Qumran were conducted by Roland de Vaux in the 1950s, though several later unearthings at the site have since been carried out.

Stránská skála (often without diacritics as Stranska skala) is a hill and refers to a Mid-Pleistocene-Cromerian interglacial most important paleontological site in Central Europe.  Its northwestern slope is composed from karstified limestone cliffs in which numerous fossiliferous fissures and caves were found. Approximately 48 meter (157 ft) of this slope are covered by complex talus fan.

Rhyolite is a ghost town in Nye County, in the U.S. state of Nevada. It is in the Bullfrog Hills, about 120 miles (190 km) northwest of Las Vegas, near the eastern edge of Death Valley. Barad-dûr, the “Dark Tower,” is a fictional place in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth writings and is described in The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and other works. It is an enormous fortress of the Dark Lord Sauron, whence he rules the volcanic and barren land of Mordor. Located in northwest Mordor, near Mount Doom, the Eye of Sauron keeps watch over Middle-earth from its highest tower. The name is pronounced "Ba'rad doorr" with emphasis placed on the "rr." The Lieutenant of Barad-dûr is the Mouth of Sauron, who acts as an ambassador and herald for Mordor and Sauron.

Barad-dûr was completed by Sauron in 1600 of the Second Age. It was destroyed following the victory of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men at the end of the age. Rebuilding began in the Third Age, 67 years before the War of the Ring. As the Dark Tower is held together by Sauron's magic, it collapses upon the destruction of the One Ring.

Carcharodontosaurus is a genus of large theropod dinosaur that lived in Northwest Africa from about 100 to 94 million years ago during the Cenomanian stage of the Cretaceous. The taxon was first described in 1925 by French paleontologists Charles Depéret and Justin Savornin as Megalosaurus saharicus, based on two fossil teeth discovered in Algeria, which are now lost. A partial skeleton was discovered in Egypt as early as 1914 by crews of German paleontologist Ernst Stromer, although he did not report the find until 1931. Based on this specimen, together with the teeth previously described by Depéret and Savornin, Stromer established the genus Carcharodontosaurus and its type species C. saharicus.

L/A Meriluoto is one of two ferries operating between Oulunsalo and Hailuoto in the northwestern Finland. She has been operating on the route for 30 years, starting from 1996 and ending in 2026 when the Hailuoto causeway will replace ferry traffic.

Measurements: length: 53.5 m, breadth: 12.3 m, draught: 4.2 m, capacity: approx. 45 cars.

I went with the detailing and color scheme of the ferry in the mid-2010s, since I think the current appearance isn't as visually interesting. Model based on photomatching, not blueprints. Modeling done in Sketchup and then moved into Blender at the last minute, so have fun cleaning up the probably incredible topology and whatnot. Sorry :)

Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, is a legendary cryptid creature, described as a giant, hairy primate that supposedly inhabits the forests of northwestern North America. The Asian giant hornet (Vespa mandarinia), also known as the northern giant hornet, and the Japanese giant hornet, is the world's largest hornet. It is native to temperate and tropical East Asia, South Asia, mainland Southeast Asia, and parts of the Russian Far East. It was also briefly found in the Pacific Northwest of North America from late 2019 but was eradicated by December 2024.

Mini Fridge

Scientists have officially classified the structure known as the “Elf House” as *Amanita habitus domesticus*, a rare symbiotic organism blending fungal biology with architectural function. First documented in 2024 during a biodiversity survey in the Pacific Northwest, the organism appears to grow its own living quarters, complete with bioluminescent window‑like pores and a hardened lignin‑rich stem that forms a stable dwelling chamber.

Researchers believe the species evolved alongside small forest‑dwelling humanoids previously considered mythical. Soil analysis around the site revealed deliberate cultivation patterns, suggesting a co‑adaptive relationship between the elves and the organism itself.

The discovery challenges long‑held assumptions about intelligence in non‑animal life and hints at previously unknown ecological partnerships. If confirmed globally, *A. habitus domesticus* could redefine our understanding of habitat formation, symbiosis, and the boundary between biology and architecture.

Another static re-enactment. This time the byline of the pressclip tells me, this was from 55 km northwest of Kiev . Done with MakeHuman, Blender including Auto-Rig-Pro, a (very simple) SpeedTree, Substance Painter and some Substance-Designer materials I created for another project... I think I overdid the haptic/height of materials, but it just seems so forcefully stupid, all that destruction!

British army military barracks,Summerhill, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. 19th-century upgright boundary stone inscribed on two faces built into south wall of a house on the north side of the entrance to the barracks.  Stone marked the northwest corner of the property belonging to the military barracks.  W ↑ D which stands for War Department.  The broad arrow pointing upwards carved between the W D of which the pheon is a variant, is a stylised representation of a metal arrowhead, comprising a tang and two barbs meeting at a point. It is a symbol used traditionally in heraldry, most notably in England, and later by the British government to mark government property. Erected after 1855 when the Board of Ordnance was disbanded and all military land functions were transferred to the newly created War Department. The stone has been patined which makes the inscription on the roadside face difficult to read.  A broad arrow on top with .....Feet Front
