Granodiorite squatting figure of Roy, High Priest of Amun during the reigns of Ramses II, Merenptah and Sety II, holding a Hathor-headed sistrum before, the dorsal pillar is inscribed with two vertical registers of hieroglyphs - invocations to Amun-Ra and Mut; lower section lost.

19th Dynasty, dating to circa 1220 BC. Found in Thebes, Egypt.

Colossal Bust Ramesses II - Livestream Tutorial

Petroglyph J6, Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah.  Anthropomorphic figures in several styles, domestic goats, ibexes, and other motifs. All are common throughout the region. 

Khatm Al Melaha is a spectacular archaeological site on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. It is one of the largest rock art sites in the UAE. There are also stone houses, a shell midden, stone tombs and other features that date this site has having occupations from at least the early Holocene to the 19th century.

Over 175 stones with petroglyphs were documented and close to 400 motifs were identified. Every rock with a glyph was given an ID number and a GPS coordinate. In total 25455 terrestrial photographs, 5244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points (+/- 1cm) were done in a single day.

Petroglyph J6, Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah

Copador ceramic bowl with a composite silhouette and a flat base, decorated on both surfaces with black, orange, and red paint on cream ground. The exterior surface presents two horizontal decorative bands, one with pseudo glyphs and the other with stepped designs in red and orange. The interior wall presents a decorative band composed of oval pseudo glyphs, while the base is decorated with a red-outlined circle enclosing a central black dot.

Copador Bowl

Rectangular hieroglyphic block carved with twelve glyphs framed by a perimeter band. It is classified as a escalinata. The text contains abundant calendrical information, including distance numbers that relate two Calendar Round positions associated with the accession of an Ajaw and the celebration of a five-tun period ending (Camilo Luín, 2012).

Stair riser from Itzán

Rock Varvings recording the travels of the royal family.

The Cheonjeon-ri Petroglyphs are located along the Daegokcheon river at Cheonjeon-ri in Ulsan. Silla royal family members visited the area in 525 and 539 and left a record of it on the rock that is approximately 2.7m in height, and 9.5m in width. They referred to the valley as Seoseokgok and included the names of those who visited the valley. This is a good example of how Silla recorded events an the time.

Rock Carvings - Gyeongju National Museum | KOREA

Vase whose surface is largely covered with modern paint in orange, cream, tan, and red tones. It is decorated with a band of glyphs below the rim and secondary texts. The main scene depicts six richly attired figures participating in a sacrificial ceremony. Most wear masks and small headdresses made of cloth and feathers, as well as weapons with obsidian blades. One of the figures holds a decapitated head by the hair.

Vase with Sacrifice Scene

Polychrome bowl (red and black on yellow slip) with convex walls and base. Above and below the rim are two horizontal bands, one black and the other red, followed by a horizontal band of pseudo-glyphs painted in red. The decorated surface features two medallions placed on opposite sides of the wall, separated by vertical sets of three concentric circles. Each medallion contains the head of the god K’awil, painted in red and shown in left-facing profile.

K’awil God Bowl

A sword with "hieroglyphs". I came up with an idea for a sword and wanted to make it. It seemed simple, but it was nice

Among the figures, the use of elaborate skirts stands out, some featuring plaques and fringes in a variety of designs and colors. Polychrome vase (orange, red, black, and cream) with a composite profile, decorated with red slanted bands and jaguar-skin motifs, combined with horizontal and oblique bands that reinforce this feline reference. The vessel also features three slanted panels with profile representations of the god K’awiil, and a band of pseudo glyphs running below the rim. The piece originates from the Guatemalan Highlands, Nebaj area, Quiché.

Vase with K'awiil Deity

Incomplete polychrome vase. It features a scene composed of five figures. One individual, shown kneeling in right profile, wears his hair gathered under a turban and a loincloth marked with jaguar spots. He appears to be offering an object to a standing figure depicted richly attired. Behind this central figure rises a vertical column of seven pseudo-glyphs. Further behind stands another individual holding a spear in his left hand and wearing a loincloth decorated with circular motifs. This is followed by a robust figure shown dressed in a loincloth and mantle, holding a tubular artifact. Adjacent to him is a column containing four glyph-like designs positioned at waist level. The final figure carries objects in his hands. He wears a segmented loincloth and rectangular anklets.

Nakbé-style bowl or cajete with straight, divergent walls and a flat base. The exterior surface is decorated with representations of the deity GIII, featuring the KAN symbol on the forehead, along with stylized elements in black on a cream background, interspersed with two pseudo-glyphs. On the interior, just below the rim, a  broad red band is visible. This ceramic style corresponds to the northeastern Petén region, likely from the Nakbé and Mirador area.

Tripod Plate with Skull Motif and Glyphic Band

An orange-on-cream bowl or dish with a flat bottom and divergent wall. It is decorated with two water birds in profile, probably cormorants, on opposite sides and separated by vertical series of two 8 Ahaw glyphs (placed the other way around).The orange paint on a white background characterizes this ceramic style, which was produced around the site of Naranjo, in northeastern Petén. NAA of the paste indicates the eastern Peten region as its place of origin, from the city of Naranjo to the western and southern Belize Valley (Maya Survey Project, Smithsonian).

Naranjo Bowl with Water Birds

Bowl with slightly convex walls toward the base and a concave base. It features a black-painted rim and an exterior surface covered with a dark orange slip, showing evidence of surface wear and craquelure. The decoration consists of a black horizontal line located on the lower middle portion, above which is a horizontal band composed of 19 glyphs outlined in black. The interior preserves remnants of an orange slip. NAA of the paste indicates the area between Cancuén and Machaquilá, Petén, as the probable place of origin or manufacture.

Polychrome Vase

Polychrome bowl decorated with a black perimeter band followed by a sequence of 10 glyphs and four figures arranged alternately. The two jaguars have spotted skin with circles and dots, eyes with spiral irises, tails pointing upwards, and what appears to be a water lily flower or an enema bulb on their heads. The  two black figures have protruding lips, bodies painted with black stripes (probably imitating hair), and headdresses with three scrolls or feathers. They wear a red loincloth knotted at the back. All hold small bowls in their hands, and between them, alternately, are red jars from which red scrolls emerge. Below the main scene is a decorative band with a phytomorphic design consisting of two intertwined bands, possibly coiled stems. Small black and red bulbs or buds protrude, alternating.

Bowl with jaguars and monkeys in enema ritual

Copador polychrome vase decorated with two red bands, above and below the lip, followed by a band of pseudoglyphs. The rest of the surface features five figures in left profile wearing headdresses, jewelry, and short skirts, separated by floral designs. Specular hematite is visible. The Cultural Property Register registered it as "recently manufactured," however it is an original vase. Its decoration coincides with the established canons for this style, including the use of specular hematite. The record should be corrected.

Copador Vase

Square limestone glyphic panel with rounded edges. The panel bears eight glyphs which, according to the text, include the name of a noble or ruler, Jan/Janaab Ti’ O’ Hix-Witz-Ahaw-Wa’, “Lord of Jaguar Hill” (a political entity identified by several epigraphers as a territory related to La Joyanca, Zapote Bobal, and Pajaral). The text states that he was “in the presence of” Yuknoom Ch’een, “the Lord of the Five K’atuns,” K’uhul Kaan Ajaw, “Holy Lord of the Serpent,” identifying him as the ruler of Calakmul.

Hix Witz Panel

A limestone lintel, likely from Saqqara, inscribed for the Overseer of Craftsmen Tjenti. The prepared surface of its outer face carries a panel of sunk relief depicting Tjenti, wielding a staff in his left hand and a kerchief in his right, seated on a couch beside his wife, Niankhhathor. Both figures wear wigs, his short and hers long, and long, close-fitting tunics. Before them are two lines of hieroglyphs containing the offering formula. The lintel can be dated to the Fifth Dynasty (c. 2510–2370 BC), with many close examples known from Giza and Saqqara. The main dating criterion is the offering formula.

Lintel Of Tjenti (W491)

Tiquisate ceramic vase with a light orange slip, slightly divergent walls, and a flat base. The vessel is divided by a rectangular molding that runs horizontally around the body. In the upper panel, immediately above this molding, there is a series of three incised glyphs. In the lower section, several elements slightly in relief and inclined to the left are present. Slight discoloration is visible near the base.
